I just finished watching The Wire. Holy fucking shit. Can we have a chat about it?
I really enjoyed s2. That scene where Frank walks to the bridge to face his death ;_;

S02 is my favorite self-contained season of any TV series ever.
Marlo should’ve been recasted and given a gimmick. He made the later seasons less bearable.
I finally started watching The Wire and couldn't stop myself from binging the whole of season one. It was incredible.
But then I got to season two and it bored tf out of me, I hated the pacing and setting change so I stopped.
Does season 2 really get better? Do they go back to the street setting?
Just keep going it will reward you.
MY OFFICE NOW
Childhood is idolizing Stringer. Adulthood is realizing Avon makes more sense
Avon was based af. How much did he get?
Stringer was almost Omar tier as a bullshit character created for white audiences. Especially with Idris Elba miscast as a semi-educated Baltimore ghetto thug.
season 2 is different but it sets up everything for the rest of the series
i feel like the sentiment of realising stringer wasnt as smart as he thinks he was has gone too far now and people just shit on him all the time like it makes them look 'deep'
he was still very effective and the barksdale empire probably would have done better had they listened to him more.
talking of the show as a whole, the thing i've always found so impressive is that there are so many characters but you still feel like you know them all pretty well, and few feel superflous. Plus considering a cast of literal whos (largely) the performances are pretty solid across the board
>sentiment of realising stringer wasnt as smart as he thinks he was
Been a while since I read it, but I think it straight up said in the Wire's bible that Stringer/Stringy thought he was a lot smarter than he really was. Idris Elba doesn't really project stupid very well.
14 years I think
Correct opinion
Shit opinion
So he should be out in 2020? Damn imagine Avon getting his own spin off series where he comes back home and tries to rebuild his empire. would be kino.
Why is Omar a character created to pander to whites? genuinely interested
I just finished it for the second time the other day. I do believe it is my favorite TV show.
Every season is essential to the overall story. Season 1 subverts your expectations as a cop show. Each season after that adds a new layer of the city and how it is dysfunctional. By the end everything is tied together.
Season 4 is the best imo, and Season 5 is pretty uneven. Glad it didn't keep going or else it might have gotten bad at a 6th or 7th season, but as it stands its in my top 5 shows ever. So many great character arcs and the dialogue and themes are so well executed.
Marlo was based. Sure he wasn't a cool guy to hang out with like Avon, but he was a ruthless psychopath drug lord and didn't take shit from anyone.
Which season had the best intro theme? For me it's S02
I like S1 intro the best
S04
>i feel like the sentiment of realising stringer wasnt as smart as he thinks he was has gone too far now and people just shit on him all the time like it makes them look 'deep'
yeah what REALLY makes you deep is using normie scare quotes and disagreeing with contrarians
What an overrated show. Holy shit. This show fucking meanders around for 5 seasons and the worst fucking part is, there's no pay off at all. It just goes around and around. Life may be cyclical like that, but fuck watching that shit for 80-some episodes or whatever it was.
Gottem
>AYO STRING
>WHERE’S WALLACE
>It just goes around and around
That was the point. No matter what the police or the city do there always will be another Avon, another Bubbles, another Wallace so on.
I wonder what happen'd with the world. Omar was/is gayboi faggot ass licker fucker sucker and I did not give a fuck, he was fucking badass, OMARS COMIN YOO. NOONE even mentioned it.
Now when someone is gay ITS hOLY FUCKING SHIT WHAT THE FUCK
Not just that, but the problems in the police department, the school system, the media and the political system are in a way just as bad as the crime. And those systems are locked into cycles that can't be broken.
The show is about why all these institutions are dysfunctional and how they force people into desperate situations.
Because city is run by dems. Shit like this never happens in republican run cities.
