While finding the berserker body is convenient, it's no different than Tony Stark being able to build an armored suit while being held prisoner when he is supposed to be building missiles. It is essential to the plot. It's not just so Alita can get an upgrade, it's so I do can finally let go of his daughter and stop trying to mold Alita into her. He gave her the body he built for his daughter and even her name. And he refuses to put Alita into the berserker body because he's afraid she'll become a weapon. He wants to protect her.

But when I do sees her fight, and the doll body is destroyed, he realizes that she belongs in the berserker body. He could have easily put together in temporary body for her, like he did with Hugo, while her rebuilt the doll, but he knows that's not the answer. He understands that he needs to let Alita be Alita, and not the daughter he lost.

I just watched this from the amazon 1080p webrip.
It's an impressive CGI movie that's for sure. Probably close to the best cgi to date and obviously taking motion capture to the next level. Not everything is perfect in this regard though, sometimes the voice/face connection, dialogue delivery of alita was unconvincing and didn't quite mesh well (not really sure how to put this sorry maybe its the uncanny valley thing). Overall very impressive.
The movie itself is a pretty bland boilerplate action drama. With more than a couple of, how else to put it but cringe scenes, like the girl power scene of beating up all the men in the bar. I think they could have got a better VA for Alita to be honest, doesn't sound girlish enough. Also feels like there's no big significant victory for her, like she doesn't defeat any arch villain or anything. As if they are setting up a sequel and trilogy which I always hate, doesn't really stand alone as a strong movie.
If you take it as a CGI tech demonstration, then it's quite a good one. 6/10 not bad.

The VA for Alita is the same woman doing all of the acting, they're recording her lines on set the same way they record any of the other actors

The post I replied to implied that Alita is animated separately from her voice but that's inaccurate because the actress playing Alita is doing everything, so her facial expressions and mouth movements match the dialogue because it's being recorded all at once.
Anyone can have their own opinion on the quality of the performance but it seems like there are a lot of misconceptions about the actual process that was used.

For me the film feels like it was made a different time. Feels like it was made the same time as the The Mummy from the 90s. It also has some positive elements to it, such as the fact that Alita often falls and fails until she succeeds (unlike most modern blockbusters) and she also has a positive relationship with a paternal figure.
It wasn’t perfect, feels somewhat awkward with its pacing, and you can tell it’s a Manga adaptation with its world building. But it felt like it had some passion behind it, and I hope there’s a sequel at least.
