We're three seasons into what was supposed to be a horror show, and the horror aspect has nearly disintegrated in favor of relationship drama. Not to pretend like this wasn't present in the beginning but it's gone from 90-10 in favor of horror, to the complete opposite. I found myself thanking Will for pointing it out, only for it to just keep going anyway. They never really resolve their broken friendships they just get distracted and forget about it toward the end.

The antagonists are russians this time around, but that's a cheap distraction from the fact that they're more or less the same thing. Evil nameless science men trying to mess with the dark place.

This show seems to revel in its own stagnation, never introducing any further insights into its lore, and repeating the same story structure every season. It's entertaining, but at the same time painfully mediocre and screams of missed potential.

tl, dr
u gay

People can shit on it all they want. I can't remember the last time a show/movie made me actually sob at the end and the finale did that to me.
>t. watched finale an hour ago

There wasn’t much horror in the first one. A little bit of shocking imagery here and there but it was always more of a suspense/sci-fi thing.

Not gonna lie, I did feel something in my cold dead heart

1 > 3 > 2
Fite me

Reminder Yea Forums used to like this show until newfag redditors came here

says nu wars fag

>What the fuck are you doing with my uniform? I just told you I peed in it.

Attached: 1562472945462.png (300x300, 192K)

it's actually

1 > 3 >>>>>>>>> 2

This show could have been great if they had a totally new antagonist/monster every season. Instead, they just renewed the same monster from the Upside Down, just using a different vessel to attack Eleven and Hawkins. The possibilities were endless but they just used the same old antagonist without adding any more real lore to it. By halfway through season I didn't give a shit because the monster was so vague and uninteresting.

No one cares what you think, you pathetic loser.

I want Will to give Mike an awkward kiss and than play it off as a joke and then cry. Preferably while the two are still twinks.

>he horror aspect has nearly disintegrated in favor of relationship drama
Yeah, a transdimensional monster that is built from flaying the minds of random humans so that they can eventually drop into a pool of gore in front of it's presence isn't scary at all. In fact, the idea of an alternate reality that is based on evil and darkness which bleeds into the reality as we know it, but is kept masked by government agencies for their own sinister purposes, and the relation a victim of MKULTRA has with these purposes and evil entities of this realm is totally unoriginal and not creative in the slightest. /s
There's obviously it's fair share of plot holes and the Dustin/Susie song really killed the suspense of the finale Ill give you that but overall, it is a fun series with an original concept that is more disturbing than just "horror" because it's not that implausible. Keep pushing these gay fucking horror films about ghosts and scary demons and then shitting on a show that has an actual decently original concept.
>youtu.be/yTbnIQMAhmU
Highlight of S3, truly capturing the horror of an evil transdimensional entity existing in an alternate reality of darkness that is channeling it's malevolent presence into an unsuspecting human.

I come to find I enjoy shows like these a lot better when they are on my other monitor while I'm playing video games and stuff and only devote like 50% (usually less) of my attention to them.

Dialogue was pretty shit. Hopper was completely ruined, no reason to write him like that. Literally same plot 3 seasons in a row, and nothing of true consequence happens, nor is there any genuine character development, in part because half of the cast is a darn near different. Go watch some of season 1 immediately after 3, it is jarring my duderinos.

>people go through life changes as they progress in their lives, jarring my duderinos
Unironically murder yourself fag.

season 1 was on the cusp of being average, but it ended up being pretty good. season 2 and 3 are dogshite and had on reason for ever being put into production.

Are you ready for Dr Manhatten Hopper

I'm gonna miss Billy so much, all throughout S4 I'll be delusional and be expecting for him to show up

Why was the mind flayer still alive?

And why does closing the hole immediately kill it?

>It’s entertaining,
Are you like, 10? Season 3 put me to fucking sleep.

I want to see this.

They did /ourguy/ dirty but at least he died a hero and a real human being.

Billy the Based, so sad to see him go

This show was never good.

>and how much did you cry at the end?
10 minutes

>undercutting your climax with a musical number
>there's like 3 scenes in the season where the 4 kids are all together when their chemistry was one of the things that sold season 1
>Mike and Lucas choose hoes over bros every single time
>Max is useless
>El is nerfed
>Lucas' sassy sister is a main character now
>Steve continues to devolve into a hopeless incel
>Billy carries the season with one hand only to die to the sewer monster
>Hop went full retard, had multiple opportunities to kill commie assassin before the last fight scene
>half the cast leaves town at the end
>ending stinger ruined the impact of Hopper's death, everyone knows he's the guy in the other prison cell
Still better than season 2 though

kino season.

Didn’t cry, but I got feels. I miss my childhood friends.

Got extremely irritated after episode four. Every scene with Hopper and Joyce just devolved into everyone shouting at each other for comic effect. Why was Hopper a neurotic hothead who would go from mildly irritated to blind rage at the drop of a hat? That’s not his character.

Annoying and abrupt tone shifts. During the hospital sequence it cuts to the stereotypical black woman saying stereotypical black woman shit on the phone. Before El does something really dangerous and the tension is rising, Mike and Lucas have a three minute argument about Coke vs. New Coke. It was Michael Bay levels of obnoxious. Season Two was actually a little better.

>Ends in a 2 episode inter-racial gang bang
Whoa brave and bold Mr. hebrewsteinsgoldenburg!

What was your favorite part of the show?

Attached: have sex.png (2535x1261, 1.14M)

>Every scene with Hopper and Joyce just devolved into everyone shouting at each other for comic effect
It wasn't just them. This season everybody constantly started needless bickering and shouting, usually when it was absolutely not the time.
>It's always sunny in Hawkins

I'm just pissed Steve didn't get the girl.
>lets make the perfect match a lesbian for no reason lmao

Very much so - the tone is all over the place, it is almost if this season was not written by human beings. Two examples of the same thing come to mind - the most recent Star Wars and Predator movies, where again and again characters are in difficult situations but all tension is diffused via stupid quips and witty back-and-forth.

my favourite part was where the men were dumb and the women were smart

Remember when Hopper was a somewhat reserved, brooding police chief who's own tragic circumstances regarding his child allowed him to empathise with Joyce Byers? Remember when he spent most of Season 1 investigating the unusual circumstances, you know, like a member of law enforcement, with fellow police officers... and wasn't the loud, often drunk, uses his police authority to do whatever he wants and otherwise might as well not be a police chief anymore, pines after Joyce like a lovesick dog, deadbeat dumb dad character?

Flanderization!

Attached: flanderization_transparent.png (330x597, 137K)

Whereas the previous seasons felt like 80s homage, this one felt like 80s parody. I don't know why they dropped the relative grounded tone of the show for a cheesy James Bond style secret Russian base in middle America.

I mostly remember him trying to solve every problem by punching people and drawing a gun and having it pay off perfectly. This is character growth. He's been conditioned to understand that taking the most direct, violent path is the most productive.

I would not at all be surprised if Netflix put out some sort of general edict demanding new, "diverse" (cheap), writing team quotas. The writing is just that much worse, even more so than Season 2, which at least harboured a good deal of S1's tone. For example, the Russian's being the secondary antagonists wasn't a bad or even an uninspired choice, considering the nature of America at the time, but the facile way the writers incorporated it makes it feel like it was included based entirely on modern political discourse.

Several characters seem to have evolved from being merely kids or adults into a variety of convenient geniuses. Dustin having built a super-powered radar, Hopper flagrantly violates the law whenever he wants now, the little black girl is a maths prodigy, and the new Robin character learned semi-fluent Russian in like a week.

alright chad, what shows do you watch?

Same. I mean what reason was there for a last minute "lol btw I´m a lesbian"? Why could he just not get the cute girl he´s been buildning a relationship with the entire season? I dun get it

>people crying over Hopper
Can't tell if I'm simply not a very emotional person or if normal and others are overly sensitive crybabies. I was borderline skipping through the ending cause it was so boring.

So in the end is it Dr Brenner or Hopper in the cell?

They haven't decided yet who it is. Just another mystery box. They're learning from JJ Abrams. Next they'll hire fucking Lindelof as writing director.

It was just some random unlucky dude

Attached: Random Unlucky Dude.png (970x546, 607K)

That's just what people enjoy and are used to now, you can blame capeshit.

>Why was Hopper a neurotic hothead who would go from mildly irritated to blind rage at the drop of a hat? That’s not his character.

That was his character, though. He was always a barely controlled pot of rage about to boil over. It just seemed more exaggerated because, well, it was. Both times he has a violent outburst he's going overboard to get results. He just wanted to go get the whole ordeal over with and go back to his sitcom dad life.

Obviously I mean "The American" not that guy

literally who is dr brenner

the head of the whole Program in Hawkins and "father" of El who was believed to have died in S1 but we learn he lived in S2, he could be it because somebody probably told the Russians about the Hawkins and stuff

Lmao lets subvert expectations

I skipped the entire episode, you're not alone.

season 3 is a piece of shit
1 >> 2 >>> 3

it was dogshit i really wanted to drop it ep 2 and 3. definitely wont watch more

>crying over a Netflix original
Do zoomers really do this?

when Nancy's mom said "you're a fighter" i cried

Attached: file.png (1170x960, 99K)

watched it because i had nothing better to do

like they'd kill off hopper what a fucking meme he's going to escape next season somehow

the show fucking sucks

people only hate season 2 for the shit xmen spinoff episode. if you skip that episode it's a pretty solid season. season 3 is shit all over

Killing off Hopper is the most humane thing the creators could do after turning him into an incel loser that gets openly mocked by children.

Attached: Stranger.Things.3-8-4.webm (1280x720, 2.99M)

I enjoyed it a fair bit, way more than Season 2 and I'm glad they didn't feel the need to reintroduce those Episode 7 characters from last season just to justify themselves. There were a couple of times when the gang was in a desperate situation that I thought "christ, this would be the classic opportunity for a team of new superheroes to arrive" but it never happened so it looks like they might have just straight erased that from canon.

However, the anti-male subtext was not even subtly done, it was like a double-barrelled shotgun to the face. There was the standard "men are dumb, girls are smart" stuff that's in everything these days of course but there was also the whole "Eleven dumps Mike and laughs about it" stuff, the way they made Lucas a shitty boyfriend too, the "Steve can't chat up women anymore" stuff and - particularly - a scene where Eleven & Max are spinning the bottle to decide who to spy on and despite the fact they made the wheel and chose the names, one of them is "Mr. Wheeler" to which they both laugh and say "BORING!!!". Why the fuck is he even on the board that YOU MADE you stupid cunts?

I'm honestly amazed that Mrs. Wheeler didn't get absolutely torn up by Billy and it was played as female empowerment to be honest. Really fucking pervasive and dangerous.

Wrong, Season 2 is just Season 1 Redux. Season 3 is actually a different story and doesn't end with "Eleven just uses her powers again but this time screams a little bit louder and floats".

completely different from season 1. Season 2 sucked ass as well. where are the monsters? where is the horror? fuck kids and fuck highhschool shit

season 2 actually had good writing and solid character design with interesting relations. Billy was a great human antagonist that shifted the dynamic of Steve being the macho guy to being the guardian figure of Dustin. we get to see Hopper's relationship with El (which is very wholesome and sweet, unlike S3 where Hopper is shouting all the time). Will is back with the original crew and we see how he deals with the shadow monster as well as re-adjusting to being with his friends again and going back to school. And Dr Owen is a very well written morally grey character that is trying to fix up the shit show that Dr Brenner left behind. There is a great chemistry between Bob and Joyce. etc etc etc there are heaps of great things to compliment in S2 (1/2)

the overall story for all seasons is still monster exists -> find monster -> destroy monster. except in S3 it flattens character relations, turns the characters into 1dimensional caricatures of themselves, has no suspense or mystery and presents the sequence of events in a very uninspired predictable way (2/2)

>/s
you don't need to do that here you dumb redit faggot

So how would he have ended up in Soviet captivity if there was only one exit out of the facility and the US soon stormed it after the machine was destroyed, "The American" Ooooh that must mean Hopper

He clearly went through the gate, and ended up in Russia.
This season had some fun moments but most of the time I felt like I was watching a parody. The 'Neverending Story' thing was some of the worst shit to put to film. It works as maybe one verse and then on to business, but nope! They are going to sing the whole fucking song. Why would any sane person do this?

>El is nerfed
This. The girl was moving train wagons less than a year ago - show timeline - and now she's struggling anytime she has to use her powers. If anything, they should just remove the nosebleed trope and move on with a developed El.

and once again this image is proved correct

Attached: 1471859486765.png (850x600, 107K)

I cried like a little bitch surprisingly, because this show normally doesn't make me feel anything but boredom. Season 3 was a fun ride though.

It's pretty obvious where most of the hate is coming from. People triggered by black people. People triggered by lesbians. People who feel the need to call Netflix Jews in any thread about any Netflix series (of which there is far more viable content than any other channel or streaming service).

This.
The monster didn't feel special at all. Some faggot might say that billy being the new antagonist by being possessed was good but then he'll remember that they used that card on Will the last season.
The show is just copy & paste from it's first season into it's third season (season 2 was shit and i don't remember anything from it).
4th might be more original but the possibility of it being more pozzed compared to the 3rd and 2nd is multiplying by itself by the second.

You ever consider in your worthless life that YOU are the odd one out, the one no one likes to stick around?

i was more interested in Hopper’s bear body. more of that next season. thanks.

Wait maybe I forgot, but is Eleven a natural esper or was she Akira'd?

nice projection right there

Werent Billy and his sister living without parents? Whats gonna happen to her?

Yeah, this (or something similar) is what I wanted this season, but instead they made Will's gayness indistinguishable from asexuality/arrested development.Oh well, maybe next season...

The redhead? She lives with Lucas now! She has to work hard for her keep though, but it's worth it :)

The only good thing about this shit season was hyperbole crazy Soviet Russian terminator

Alexei was based and fren pilled.

Neil and Susan are both alive as far as we know, they just weren't shown a single time all fucking season.

She has her mom and her abusive step-father who will probably beat the living shit out of her now that Billy is gone

Nailed it for me. I always liked the feeling season 1 gave off. It was actually spooky, the other seasons just feel like sci-fi and no longer cosmic horror type thing. It’s a real bummer desu, i thought it was only going to get darker but the exact opposite happened

well since they also got an demogorgon back there in russia they must have figured it out in same way

>beat the shit out of you with your own flip flops
This seems strangely sexual, I would pay to see this

I'm pretty fucking confused about the mind flayer shit after this season.

My initial understanding was that the fragment that came out of Will just chilled out in our world after the gate closed, since it was cut off from the main thing. Then the ruskies open a gate again and it starts doing weird shit with rats and builds a body. Eventually they kill the body by blowing up the machine and closing the gate.

But doesn't that just mean the next time the russians open a gate (which they're clearly not going to stop doing) you just have the same issue?

cary elwes doesn't get enough love

Attached: mayor kline.jpg (1920x846, 137K)

yep it was good, like 92% good compared to 1st season.
the thing i didnt like was sudden switch of tone to very campy comedy. i mean i would have loved it if the entire series was like it, but 1st and 2nd season arent. and i missed some creepy suspense. it turned from horror show to a monster show

Attached: yep.jpg (1591x919, 59K)

1 - 100%
2 - 55% (compared to 1)
3 - 92% (compared to 1)

mind flayer came back to life when russians opened the portal again and communication of the upside-down mind flyer was up and running again. and it killed it when portal was closed again

comrade molotov

this joke landed so hard for me i dont know why but i fuckign laughed so hard

This season was a lot more structurally sound than season 2, with each plot thread actually feeling important and properly tying into the main thread instead of shit like Nancy and her dog Jonathon going on an adventure to expose the evil government currently trying to fix the mess and protect the town. That said, there's some really sloppy writing in order to get every piece to fall where it needs to. There are a lot of fucking characters, and needing every single one to contribute something is difficult and will only get worse.

I also think repeatedly using the mindflayer and demogorgon is a mistake. They didn't need the demogorgon to make much sense in season 1 in the same way the xenomorph didn't need to be explained in Alien. The more you show it the more room for all the inconsistencies to pile up because they really didn't put that much thought into it in season 1, and then introducing a sentient threat capable of scheming mind control also causes confusion when its plan ends up being to make a giant monster body instead of continuing to be the mastermind manipulator that it should excel at.

im so tired of this dumb monsters screaming into the camera like if it were soo scary
its not scary, the only time it was cool was the first time of s1

Attached: e.png (888x500, 518K)

because he has been chasing girls for 2 seasons, he was a chad and king of high school and after that it all went downhill so this time they gave him a friend ...

the frontal shot of a portal cannon revealed that there is a ladder bellow the canon and he could have climbed down + all the russians kind of disappeared when US military came so there could be some kind of secret exit.

but i personally hope its not him, cuz it ruins the entire ending of season 3

its like shows that have vampires. they cant resist the stupid fucking closeup and HISSSSSS.
