Star Wars (1977) is probably the best sci-fi film of all time...

Star Wars (1977) is probably the best sci-fi film of all time, I wish it had never became a massive culture-defining Hollywood franchise and just stayed as a single obscure standalone film to be appreciated by patrician kinosseurs for ages to come. Its fusion of WW2 films, Samurai films, old Westerns, and usage of deep Campbellian/Jungian mythology makes it a proper classic

Everything you say is true, except it's Science Fantasy, not Science Fiction.

Star Wars has lost its luster because of the sequel trilogy.
>Han is a deadbeat dad who died like a bitch.
>Luke is a humiliated failure of a man who died like a bitch.
>Women like Leia led to the downfall of the Republic that they fought so hard to save.
Oops.

It’s such a damn good movie on its own. It’s held together with duct tape and passion. Then by the time ROTJ came out, the franchise became a huge soulless money grab. It’s not any different than it was back then. It’s just now the money goes to the mouse and they can milk it much more.

I prefer the phantom menace

The first Star Wars was a simplistic pastiche of better films that came before. The cast and the score were the only things that held it up. As said, the sequel was much, much better in every regard.

That’s a funny way of spelling Stalker (1979)

If Star Wars wasn't as big as it was, we wouldn't have gotten Raiders. Hairyson Ford probably would never go on to make his other decent movies.

Star Wars sucks, watch real movies

That's pretty much Star Wars' big issue. It peaked at the first movie (never liked Empire that much). I don't hate most of what came afterwards but neither do I feel like it needs to exist.

why d oyou hate Star Wars? it's good and i can force shoke you because the force is with me so shut the fuck up and sit down, be humble

its not science fiction

boy you sure socked it to Star Wars by using the word "pastiche" multiple times, you pay to attend "film school", don't you?

Stopped reading right here. Star Wars isn't sci-fi. It's science-fantasy.

I agree for the most part. Although The Empire Strikes Back was great as well, but it should have ended with that. With the exception of the Emperor character, just about everything since 1980 has been trash.

You just reminded me of the time when mom rented "All is Lost"; dad described it to me on the phone. "So your mother rented a film called "All is Lost", I have no idea why she'd want to watch a film with that title. Robert Redford is shipwrecked or something, whoop-dee-doo. So I hid in the basement and worked on some models."

Based dad.
