gotta be Rush Hour 2

Citizen Kane

technically that was their first release i think back on

L A S E R D I S C

but building off of that Akira would be cool

In an ideal world, Intolerance. Griffith is literally Hitler to leftist cinephiles though, so that's unlikely.

Would it be retarded to say Rain Man?

in an ideal world, olympia 4k restoration

speaking of, will criterion start offering 4K blu rays in the future? I see that the Do the right thing release is a 4k master, but obviously its not a 4k bluray.

Re-release of Michael Bay's Armageddon

not 4K but they already did Olympia
criterion.com/films/29360-100-years-of-olympic-films-1912-2012

All 22 seasons of Top Gear with Clarkson, May and Hammond

>Intolerance was not an apology for The Birth of a Nation—quite the opposite, in fact. Griffith was indignant over the backlash and was trying to make a point about others being intolerant about opposing views.
literally poltard victim complex: the film

barnes and noble is doings its semi annual 50% off sale. Nows the time to buy it if you want it

but he would be disgusted by the basement-dwelling mutts that browse /pol/

Attached: unitedartists.jpg (1305x1000, 215K)

Body double.

oh ok thanks. masters of cinema did intolerance and birth of a nation so if you want them those are good releases. also it shows its possible to release them so criterion might aswell at some point, tho i feel they are more politically motivated than moc

Blade Runner

Bridge on the River Kwai, Lawrence of Arabia or some other major Hollywood film

no. they want too much money to put things on 4k. kino put hannibal on 4k and apparently it didnt even sell well.

When are we gonna get a blue ray of Spartacus
considering they've done Kubrick before, I would put 5 bucks down its FMJ, and 20 bucks its 2001.

Most people think it might be Citizen Kane and/or a Welles Boxset. The other guess I have heard of is that it might be a film with "grand" in the title, like Grand Budapest Hotel. I don't even know if criterion really puts any significance on the spine numbers though, so it really could be anything.
In general I really hope they do more director boxsets after the big success of the Bergman Box. I would kill for a collection of Bunuel's Mexican films for example.

I would spend the money for FMJ Criterion tbqh

>I don't even know if criterion really puts any significance on the spine numbers though
666 was The Devil's Backbone so they definitely think about it for the major numbers

me too
i already budgeted 25 bucks for the the Apocalypse Now Final Cut coming out next year.

There are a lot of great Vietnam films i would love to see get the Criterion collection
Platoon, We Were Soldiers, Deer Hunter, Hamburger Hill, Good morning Vietnam, i could go on and on.

I'd pay a good amount if for an Edward Yang collection

meant next month not next year

What makes criterion better than a regular BD release??

A Criterion remaster of the Vietnam Special would be pure kino

nothing. criterion is overrated as fuck.

restoration and supplementals
keep watching capeshit faggot

>large amount of effort added to restoration of older films.
>large amount of effort in producing quality DVD/ Blu Ray masters of films
>a shit ton of extra features, many of which you will actually watch.

Maybe it will be a film adaptation of the 1000 Arabian Nights?

i actually dont usually care for extras but i like the design and the restoration quality ,alternative soundtracks or versions (voices of light for joan for example) are almost always included with is very important

What is Criterion?

I really wish criterion would form a second brand for film relases with the qaulity and extras of a criterion but for films and maybe even tv that isn't as artistically or historically important.

There are a lot of Cult Classics, B horror Movies, forgotten 1-2 season TV shows, and also just a ton of shit that doesnt get the respect or treatment it deserves.

Imagine a Star Trek Blu Ray box set done by them.

This!

video distribution company known for providing great releases of historically and artistically important films.

>keep watching capeshit faggot
enjoy your shitty fucking release because youre a retarded blind faggot

I don't want Criterion to start doing TV, it would just be a string of boomer shit like All in the Family/MASH/Hill Street Blues and then deteriorate into garbage

like the breakfast club, the rock and menace to society!

that would be kino. i want the same for silent films only, theres alot that still have to be restored in high quality

and Armageddon and Lena Dunham

They did it for 666 but they didn't really ever do anything else like that, right?

What I don't like about this idea (and similarly for Citizen Kane): Most of these most prestigious films already have very good blu ray releases with lots of supplements. 2001 even got the 4K treatment last year. I don't need everything to be under the criterion label just for the sake of uniformity. If there is already a good release out there, I would rather they seek out some of the lost and forgotten stuff that is still waiting for any high def release (like most of early Bunuel)

>TV
no.

If he was alive today he'd go full blown sjw just because of how disgusting /pol/tards are

>Also Cr*terion thread
You mean 'also yet another shill thread'

There are tons of Blu Ray boutique labels out there that specialize in horror and b-movies and produce stellar releases. Most notably Arrow and Shout/Scream but there are a lot more that sometimes put out really rare stuff. Vinegar Syndrome for example is absolutely top notch when it comes to restauration

I agree for the lost and forgotten stuff, but i feel like for #1000 it should be a film everyone loves and owns but this would be the definitive version of it.

Sony keeps their Lean films pretty close to the chest. Bridge already has a 4k release (haven't seen the transfer but I've heard good things) and the blu ray for Lawrence looks astonishing.

Arrow is great but I don't know if it wants to be its own Criterion (releasing a lot of the lesser-known films of famous directors that Criterion hasn't touched), focused around B-movies or somewhere in-between.

Does Arrow ever have sales like Criterion?

VS and Arrow usually put out better looking shit than Criterion. Fuck Criterion with their macroblocking and shitty noise reduction.

>Does Arrow ever have sales like Criterion?
literally one going on right now at barnes and noble or it just ended. i dont remember.

Michael Bay gave them lots of money to get started.

Yes, Arrow is releasing a lot of stuff as is Kino Lorbeer recently. I am not that concerned with the uniformity of collections and such so I just buy what interests me most. So I generally welcome this trend. It really is amazing that kind of films now get pristine high def releases. Nobody would have guessed that ten years ago. There are some Arrow sales but as far as I know not a great 50% one like criterion does every 6 months

VS is really the best in my experience. Kind of crazy how great their discs look relative to how bad some of their films really are. At times it's just glorified porn

What is Yea Forums's opinion of the criterion channel so far? I just found out last month that it's piss easy to get it in Europe (even without VPN) and absolutely love it so far, especially since there really isn't a comparable service here. What are some hidden highlights on the channel?

>be interested in silent film
>kino releases something that looks decent
>eureka releases a beautiful remaster only in europe
i hate kino so much sometimes.

One of the biggest draws of boutique DVDs/BRs is how good they look on a shelf; why the fuck someone would want that factor for VS's pornos is beyond me

I think for me some of it was genuine curiosity because some of their films just seem so weird and out there. More often than not they're pretty hard to get through though.

Well that goes the other way too as criterion is pretty hard to get in Europe. Region coding just sucks and so does the whole licensing charade

>glorified porn
user thats how some porn was in the 70s.

>Well that goes the other way too as criterion is pretty hard to get in Europe. Region coding just sucks and so does the whole licensing charade
im region free but what kills me is not being able to find things cheap. amazon uk and diabolik dont have everything.

I find that you still make the best deals on eBay. You just have to be patient and wait for the right offering to pop up.

This is good for just buying films. But making sure the money goes to these companies is what keeps them making these films. Obviously criterion knows the sales from more classic films help them release lesser popular films.

Fucking Patton would be a awesome release. The current versions absoulutley suck.

This is Spinal Tap

More like the cringe collection lol

Had a DVD version that is now out of print. Same for their Robocop. Both of these need to be brought back as DVD and Blu Ray.

They'll finally do a blu ray collection of all the Godzilla movies they own.

>4K criterions
no thanks, they're already overpriced, I couldn't imagine how much they'd charge for 4K BRs and how many retards would defend them no matter how shitty the transfers look

they'd probably be 50 bucks, which isnt a insane price increase.

What's VS? I cant find it.

virgin sluts
vinegar syndrome

Blue Underground does good work too

Yellow Submarine

I'm thinking Top Hat will be in there soon since they just released Swing Time. I like Top Hat way more, and I'll buy it day one.

Attached: fred ginger top hat.jpg (640x786, 84K)

Laurel & Hardy boxset

heh thanks man

Most of the movies they release aren't on Blu-ray already. Some of the more popular ones are, but they're done partially to subsidize the less popular ones that are coming to Blu-ray for the first time.

I love it a lot. Watched Midnight Cowboy a few nights ago. It's pretty good. The style is very dated, kind of like The Graduate was, where it's intentionally very jittery and a little too self-aware of the fact that it's a movie. Some of those late 60's movies where like that when they didn't need to be, since the performances are so good that a more conventional filmmaking style would've been better. Enjoyed it a lot though.

Watch Ashes and Diamonds if you haven't seen it. It's one of Scorsese's ten favorites.

Attached: ashes and diamonds.jpg (1280x997, 332K)

this
Criterion works by using the revenue from popular movies to help bring more less known movies to a decent release.

Do the right thing, is probably gonna be able to fund like 5-10 movies.

>So what will be #1000?
prolly some boring pretentious crap and not a based classic kino

It's gonna be citizen kane according to the leaks, so based classic kino

alrighty then
