The point is that shinji is so introverted and beta that he can not be intimidated sexually by a woman if she is literally comatose.

All of the women in the show have a lot of power of shinji emotionally & Asuka is the biggest extreme of them exercising that power. Thats why i like her character the most, she acts like a real woman/teenage girl would in her situation, constantly prodding shinji with jabs to test his strength. Be them put downs or subtly mocking his sexual submissiveness by taunting him with her body. Shinji, obviously fails all of these tests constantly because hes a fucked up person with no self confidence or positive re-enforcement. Thats why a lot of people sympathised with shinji as a teen because they felt very similar to him. The reason Asuka does all of this this is because she wants something stable in her life, a father figure to give her emotional stability. She is not so different to shinji. Its also why she is desperately infatuated with Kaji. Because he represents that strong, stable masculine presence (at least on the surface) that she longs to have. Shinji failing all of her 'tests' pisses her off even more because she wants him to be masculine and stable and take control romantically because it shows she has value. And every time she prods him and he just takes it like a bitch its him saying "yes, im pathetic. Im the same as you" and every time he doesnt respond to her romantically hes saying "you dont have any value to me sexually or at all". Asuka subconsciously wants Shinji to grow up and take care of her.
