How do you manage to make one of the most distinct and recognisable aliens look so generic?
looks bad desu
Modern soulless half-assed CGI
Retro sci if is always shit.
And a copout
Too modernized design
Nah, it's great potential as a concept, almost always fucked up by lack of vision and fidelity to the actual period and its ways.
It'll be full of blacks and gays, pass.
No, it’s shit
Wish they made a full 'found footage' style film like this
youtu.be
hire blacks and women as art directors to fulfill a quota
or one of your jewish friends that you meet at your sons bamzimar
This. See
There were many very successful Africans living in Victorian London, it was a very multicultural society, something that contemporary accounts and historical documents have whitewashed.
half
I'm baffled that so many fucking versions of this story have been made. I get that the martians are a blank slate of whatever you want them to symbolise, but the core of the narrative is still the same, and most importantly everyone knows the ending. How do you even pitch it to a producer if your name isn't Spielberg?
Agreed.
Regardless that there were, the number that will be portrayed will be significantly higher than is accurate
BWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
This. Honest history, if you can back it up, is OK, The black "successful" members of Victorian society were rare. To put them in pretending that they were numerous and generally accepted is ingenuous at best and revisionist at worst. Sadly in this era the protagonist will likely be a black guy and in so doing clearly betray the vision of the creator as well as being real cultural appropriation. Just be honest and real. Honestly isn't evil. They just want us to think it is.
what do you mean cop out?
Not that user but I think he means that it's used as a cheap gimmick these days. They won't be true to the era but will only use it as window dressing. If they wanted to make a true to the era period War Of The Worlds then it could be great. But they won't. It'll just be modern SJW revisionist nonsense with 21st century people and values transposed into 19th century costumes and props.
They managed to make it look worse than the Cruise movie tripods.
I doe't like this blue LED shit.
I was being sarcastic about blacks in Victorian London. My guess would be a side character would be black, and shown to be treated badly by the Brits, but of course the forward thinking lead actor will treat them as if they are complete equals and inexplicably act with 21st century liberal values in Victorian England. That’s what is so annoying.
Holy shit I never knew I wanted this until now. That was awesome.
>Finally going to get a live action Thunder Child
Please don't fuck it up

>and most importantly everyone knows the ending
Are you some kind of brainlet? How many adaptations of novels have their been where we know the ending? Frankly I'm surprised there aren't more adaptations of this since it's a classic with huge brand recognition. There should have been an accurate adaptation decades ago
Who do you think is piloting those?
Holywood's been remaking the same superhero film four times a year for a decade.
I think 'war of the worlds BUUUTT it's accurately on victorian times' or generally 'war of the worlds BUUUTT insert idea here' is valid.
There's been a ton of adaptations but they're all mediocre at best.
The '53 one was just a run of the mill 50's monster movie and the jewberg one completely dropped the ball on half the movie, leaving us with just a bunch of scattered b-movies.
Nobody has done it justice yet.
>BBC
Oh... oh no...
Tell me another novel that got so many adaptations and so regularly. A Christmas Carol doesn't count.
But my point is that as a story it's just boring. People running from tripods until the end when the flu kills them.
>Frankly I'm surprised there aren't more adaptations of this since it's a classic with huge brand recognition. There should have been an accurate adaptation decades ago
The main versions of the story usually go with cultural shifts and what is usually perceived as threatening.
The novel was a metaphor about colonialism, the 53 movie about the Soviets, the 2005 about terrorism. We are still in the latter.
Best opening hour of movie this century.
>Holywood's been remaking the same superhero film four times a year for a decade.
The only three characters that fit your sentence are spiderman batman and superman, no other capeshit got more than one or maybe two movies about its origins. Also ORIGINS, the starting point for the character is always the same but where to go from there is quite open.
This time they'll show the tripods were being controlled by fascists and a team of black women and Muslims saved earth
The tripods were one of my first faps
I just loved, and still do, the way they move.
>The tripods were one of my first faps
They even do that when showing modern Britain. We're only 2% niggers here. Remember that when watching any UK tv.
In Superman's defense the origin story has only been done twice with a 35 year gap between them. Superman Returns doesn't count
Aaaahahahahahaha
I don't know why.
I gathered magazines that had ads of the movie or articles just to jerk off to the pictures and once my family got it on DVD I even had written on a piece of paper the times where the best scenes of them were so I could fast forward there to fap.
I swear I'm normal besides that one thing.
I still masturbate to them sometimes.
That's a grand total of 2 movies and 2 tv adaptations, if you include the 80s US series, which no-one in their right mind does. Hardly up there with the hundreds of Draculas, is it?
Or Sherlock Holmes, Tarzan, Frankenstein, Oliver. The list is pretty endless, I don't know what the user was thinking. The Jungle Book has been adapted at least four times just in the US
what are the chances of something coming from mars?
Which gears of war is that picture from?
>make the tripods look modern and soulless
what a shame
based
Something: happens
Little girl: AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
The actual novel adaptations for Dracula aren't that many. Of course I you consider any spin-off and sequel then it's a lot but actual adaptations aren't that many. At least the relevant ones, probably somewhere around 5 in the last 90 years (bear in mind stuff like Dracula untold doesn't count, it's a spin-off at best).
A MILLION TO ONE, HE SAID
A million to one
But still they come
>make character is idris elba
>with a white lead female
calling it
The war-horns are so kino it's ridiculous.
That’s where Jews came from
So are we talking about actual adaptations of source material (novel) with a precise beginning and ending, or any appearance of the character? Because from what you guys are saying even fucking doctor who would count.
Still more than WotW. Casino Royale has had as many movie versions as WotW, and the accuracy levels are comparable.
>probably somewhere around 5 in the last 90 years
So more than double the adaptations for a book that came out the same year
What the fuck is that tripod. Where's the kino design?
Dead And Loving It sticks closer to the original novel than either version of War of the Worlds.
Yep but you are still ignoring my post in which I said that my main doubt comes from how boring WotW is.
Dracula is much more interesting.
>Martians are evil whitey
>protagonist is a nigger
Screencap this.
Parodies can't count, come on, or do you think that young Frankenstein counts too?
>which I said that my main doubt comes from how boring WotW is.
Yeah I'm ignoring your dogshit taste
My point was that the parody is closer than two supposed straight versions. WotW has never been done faithfully.
Well that's your opinion, retard.
We get it, you don't like it. And you're a queer.
Will you fucking stop already?
I hate niggers as much as the next guy but we're trying to have a decent thread and every third post is (you) or an equally brain damaged faggot ranting, completely detached from the rest of the conversation.
this, inb4 stronk black girl with heavy britbong accent joining up with tranny girl who pretends to be a man to get a better life but she's oppressed by evil white man who dies when alien fires at house.
>>protagonist is a nigger
I could see it. They could easily beat people over the head with the 'IT'S ABOUT COLONIALISM' message that way. If I had to make a character black and I mean absolutely had to I would change the artilleryman
Must have been 12 seeing this. Was genuinely shaking after this scene.
>End of the film
>Tripod has fallen over and opens
>It's Trump
>I guess the thing that killed him in the end was... diversity.
Main role is played by Rafe Spall, race hate anons.
I never pretended to like it, fag. I was just wondering how a producer would be persuaded to make a new one.
Maybe because IT'S NEVER BEEN DONE PROPERLY YOU DUMB CUNT
>I personally don't like it so how could anyone think to make it?
Is this autism or narcissism?
Their beam weapon still confuses me, the roads are literally untouched in this scene but they have enough energy to flip over cars and destroy entire buildings
>Literally a water tower holding a gun
Unironically a better design than most Hollywood aliens
I think the idea is that it evaporates moisture at super fast rate. so the force of the evaporation in the engines can move cars and why clothes are also not destroyed. Or it could just be poorly thought out and I'm going full head canon
The sad part is I can see it happening.
THERE WERE SHIPS OF SHAPES AND SIZES,
ah to me cop out means shortcut. like that battle in GOT where the dwarf gets knocked out right away and we dont get to see any of the actual battle. doing historical settings actually takes more work for obv. reasons. maybe he meant retcon or adulteration like said
i thought they were scary. i mean they looked like the actual aliens
We Wuz Colonial N Shit
CruiseKino
have sex
>BBC
Let me guess, the aliens are transqueer niggers and we were the oppressors all along, right?
Came here to ask that, it’s the BBC after all. And it’s a guarantee all the women will be unrealistic hard nosed cunts.
>the 2005 about terrorism
really?
>Robbie: Is it the terrorists?
>Ray: No... this came from someplace else.
>Robbie: What, you mean like Europe?
>Ray: (screaming) NO, ROBBIE! NOT LIKE EUROPE!
i think it was making fun of that shit if anything. this was when the antiwar sentiment started really picking up after the iraq invasion
It was not, get the fuck out of here with that utter shit. There was a small minority, they self segregated, and they adopted British culture. Sick of leftards shitting on history for their own fucking modern day ideology.
Sarcasm, good! Sorry for shouting at you then. I’m just used to the usual narrative and you mimicked it perfectly.
God, I wish.
Great Tom Cruise sci-fi flick, awful War of the Worlds movie.
I doubt Eleanor Tomlinson will even get her tits out.
>All white
That's not diverse! WTF BBC?
A million to one chance practically guarantees something happens. It wouldn't happen with a 30% chance.
This movie had so many wonderful scenes. But second half was really crappy.
No HMS Thunder Child, no party.
They'll find a way to black wash the Thunder Child, just watch
Well, they are getting invaded by the 3rd world....
Who do you think aliens are?
Well at least its not floor tiles
Looks more like an old-time photograph to me
user... she already did.
white people
I know, in Colette.
>we are never gonna get a faithful movie adaptation of Jeff Wayne's beautiful album
A gentle rain falls softly on my weary eyes,
As if to hide a lonely tear.
My life will be forever autumn,
'Cause you're not here.
If there were a thunderchild scene would you rather it be the classical Torpedo Ram slamming a tripod before being melted or Wayne's battleship going down guns blazing?
The British Broadcasting Corporation's main hope for increasing its propaganda budget is to remove free licences from the elderly.
standard.co.uk
The BBC is now run mostly by middle-class White women who were programmed American-feminist-style.
Fuck the BBC and its BBCs.
Actually scared the fuck out of me as a kid, will never understand why people hate this film.
Jokes aside the UK probably doesn't even have enough white actors and extras for anyone to be able to film a period piece set further back than the 60s.
All of them
Cope
>bbc
>God these aliens sure are mean
>You know what is worse though
>White racists
>looks at screen while black guy starts making out with all the white women
What did the BBC mean by this?
How about shooting a Fighting machine while ramming into another one?
When is this airing? Was it not ment to come out early this year?
Looks like.... crab legs
Forgot how amazing this is
Didnt all electronics stopped working by then?
Fuck yeah
R.I.P Thunder Child
>Have incredibly advanced technology
>enough to easily conquer a world
>ahhhh germs
>ahhhh bacteria
>ahhhh why aren't we immune to the air
It's fucking stupid no one should watch or read this shit
i think they're intentionally nonsensical, to make them seem more alien and incomprehensible
>tomcruiserunningfromhomosexualthoughts.gif
This. Less blue lights and more steam.
youtube.com
Count with me
This version isn't actually set in the last few years of the 19th Century. They changed it to pre ww1 20th Century for literally no reason. It's also been in pre/production for fucking years and could only really be made after the copyright on Wells' works expired a couple years ago. It's still being constantly delayed though, it was originally meant to be broadcast last christmas but wasn't and the BBC won't say when it's coming.
>>YouTube
They prepared methodically for it, beam was specially made to dust humans
Terrible music
Every single time I post this myself I get countless replies from dumb burgers, it's quite embarrassing how uneducated they are. But, seeing as they can't use Google: bbc.co.uk
>Accuse someone of lying
>"Nuh-uh, here's a webpage they wrote that says they aren't a liar!"
>The tripods were one of my first faps
I bet you suffered from dehydration after watching Pacific Rim.
I hope they kept the BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Why would they keep something from a shitty movie version?
The tom cruise movie was the best adaptation, though
>set in contemporary america
>no hms thunder child
>best version
No.
From an accredited, government owned source that is explicitly, legally obligated to only post factual content? If you can't handle reality you might want to go back to /pol/.
the googly eyes make it look kind of stupid desu
Too far m8, not even those Grauniad reading tosspots would suck their own cocks that hard
>From an accredited, government owned source that is explicitly, legally obligated to only post factual content?
>insane gay midget in lead role
6 million
yet still the best one
says a lot about the older ones
No Cruise. You lose.
Some say love, it is a river, that drowns the tender reed
Some say love, it is a razor, that leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love, it is a hunger, an endless aching need
I say love, it is a flower, and you, its only seed
You're full of shit. Jeff Wayne made the only good version.
>From an accredited, government owned source that is explicitly, legally obligated to only post factual content
>taking the bait
Probably samefagging cunts anyway.
That was a children's show, are you genuinely this dense? Nowhere in that content does it explicitly state 'THESE PEOPLE WERE QUANTIFIABLY BLACK' they just decided to illustrate some characters as ethnically diverse to make the content less exclusionary. Honestly, the fact you can't comprehend why this decision was made and are getting mad about some random videos that probably have like less than 100'000+ combined is embarrassing.
You do know Doctor Who is science-fiction programme right? It's not a historical documentary, Jesus.
Ridiculous. Imagine based Cruise reading the Journalist's role instead of Richard Burton and I'm sure you'll see the ridiculousness of your position.
Yeah keep saying 'based', it'll make you seem less gay somehow.
The Spielberg WotW is legitimately one of the only genuinely terrifying, harrowing, haunting movies ever created. Is there a modern movie with a more palpable shirking sense of DREAD? Name it.
The scale of the tripods is perfect. With the new Godzillas and Kings, any Marvel shit, even Star Wars, you never get a flight-or-fight response from the sense of scale of anything. You're too aware it's SFX and greenscreen.
I don't understand why the SFX in Spielberg's movie are so ace and have aged so well. Seeing this in the theater in a city back then, the audience got fucked up watching it, it was like they expected Jurassic Park with ayyys and got a real life Jurassic Park horror sluiced with 9/11 flame and brimstone.
I'll never forget when they're on the ferry at night, we see a tripod beneath the water squiding in the black. The scale. That image unsettled me and I was like 18. My mind sank. After the movie, everyone had the same reaction: was that just the scariest movie I've ever seen? No one said this out loud because it was a Spielberg Tom Cruise movie though. But nobody said otherwise either. People walking back to their cars were just in a daze.
That tripod underwater scene is also odd because it was Spielberg riffing on Jaws, but imho he topped Jaws with it. It felt realer somehow. I dunno. That movie tapped into a very primal reaction in the human eye, where you were harmless prey vs a Lovecraftian predator blotting out the sky, far exceeding what 9/11 was like
And even in 2019, the movie has never gotten its due. It never shows up on "Top 20 Scariest" lists. Even this BBC Blacked remake, no one will say Spielberg's is basically untoppable as fast as horror and scale.
>There were many very successful Africans living in Victorian London,
Britain's multicultural history started in 1948 when the New Zealand Shipping Company, owned by the Jewish Isaacs family, brought 400 black men from Jamaica to London at the behest of Britain's Minister of Transport, Harry Nathan, who was also Jewish.
(If diversity is such a strength why was Britain its strongest before it was inundated with diversity? And why is it weaker than ever post diversity?)
Doctor Who's Steven Moffat on diversity:
>“And we’ve kind of got to tell a lie: we’ll go back into history and there will be black people where, historically, there wouldn’t have been, and we won’t dwell on that. We’ll say, ‘To hell with it, this is the imaginary, better version of the world. By believing in it, we’ll summon it forth.’ And, outside of the fiction, it’s about anyone feeling that they can be involved in this industry as an actor, a director, a writer… It’s hugely important, and it’s not good when we fail on that. We must do better.”
doctorwhotv.co.uk
obsessed.
>The captain of the HMS Thunder Child is a nigger. Possibly Idris Elba
>He is calm and composed as he surveys the scene of the tripods walking out into the English Channel.
>His white subordinate officers are cowardly and want to escape.
>"Our ship is no match for their war machines!"
>The captain sees the boats full of Refugees escaping England and points out that they are Refugees and it's their duty to help the Refugees.
>White Subordinate officers are shamed and recognize the errror of their selfish ways.
>"You're right, sir. We have to help those Refugees. Aye, sir. Full speed ahead!
>Close up on black and Jewish-looking refugees on the escaping boats. They cheer on the doomed HMS Thunder Child.
We'll stop when they stop.
The scene with all the bodies floating down stream was creepy af.I don't give a shit about the original so I enjoyed it for all its worth.
Yes
In the book, the Thunder Child did both.
>360 no-scoped the first tripod
>Rammed the 2nd.
Reminder that the end of the Battlestar Pegasus was an homage to the Thunder Child
yes. if youre talking about the camera, you could just replace the batteries. it also mightve been turned off before. the tripods were "off" when the storm/EMP hit. its not known if they run on electricity or some bizarre alien form of energy anyway
>Damn, you got me
>Well actually that's a children's program, so it doesn't count
>Are you dense? It's for children for crying out loud. It's meant to educate children. It's not claiming to be a primary academic source. Why are you making such a big deal out of a children's program?
>Haha, are you a child? No? Then why do you care so much about what gets shown to children? Haha
...Makes sense.
Would humanity be able to reverse-engineer it?
>Dude 9/11 but aays
It's a little derivative
Did you even read my post? None of the content you posted trying to prove my point wrong at any point states what the image suggests, characters were just illustrated as people of colour, it had no impact on the historical accuracy of the spoken word in the videos.
>people of colour
In the book they are literally referred to as heat rays so it looks like they're basing it on that
Because they're running away from something? Cause that's literally the only similarity I see and I never noticed it before
I've been here 12 years, when you have too you might grow up and realise minor altering the way you speak can make lots of people a lot more comfortable. Just so you know, it's painfully easy to spot an underage poster based on how lacking in empathy they are.
i dont thnk the weapons in the 2005 version were thought out much. heat would burn clothing as well as metal and pavement. might not melt metal but it would do more than just push a car around.
they also had some kind of weapon that wasnt in the book; you can see it early in the film when the first tripod emerges. its some kind of green flash, its used to destroy the bridge and the roof on two buildings. they took a lot of liberties with the weapons, mostly i think it was just made to look cool without much thought
It is Spielberg's reaction to 9/11 and the "War on Terror" and he's said as much.
Are you memeing? The whole film is dripping with 9/11 imagery. The running, the dust, the street level angle directly reminiscent of people running from the tower falling
man this movie looked so good. if it came out today the CG/compositing would be much more lazy and less convincing.
cry harder you pathetic leftist cocksucker
This is the shittiest tripod design ever.
Yeah, it would be great to have a sci fi plotline set on victorian era, not steampunk nonsense, but cyberpunk
That design looks really bland and the blue tint makes it look like a cheap syfy original.
See
jesus christ, you're fucking pathetic
"altering the way you speak" is generally called etiquette. etiquetto is different in all kinds of places, including Yea Forums
no, it's called newspeak. and you're pathetic
Uh so I can't speak for all of these but there were absolutely black Romans in Briton. Romans usually would station soldiers from other parts of the empire to defend places that weren't their homeland for obvious reasons. African Romans were used in Briton.
Uh newspeak isn't talking all modern it's when language is specifically regulated in a manner that dissenting thoughts can't be expressed because the words don't exist. Imagine telling people they can't say something because it's newspeak. Way to miss the fucking point.
the point is you're a brainless robot spewing embarrassing leftist ideology. stop coming here
Of go fuck yourself you seething cunt
go suck a nigger dick you spineless faggot. oh sorry, i mean "person of colour" dick. faggot
>african == black
Really makes you think
based
cringe kys
Main character is a white woman with black children.
The scientists are all Arabs and Indians.
Back to your distranny
You're not wrong.
That's why adaptions need to be a true period pieces with the martians having steampunk tech and being unaware of germs.
These ones 100% were
Hopefully she'll get her hairy red cunt out!
Except the protagonist is Rafe Spall.
Then how do you know about them
If they were so sucessful, if Londoners were so proud of this fact, if there were actual historical records of this, then how and why was it "whitewashed"? Personally, I think you're full of shit, because as always, the Lefty crybabying just doesn't add up under even BASIC scrutiny
look out! STRIDER!!!!!!!!!
Anyone remember the War of the Worlds miniseries back in the 90s?
>you are now reminded that BBC hasn't made anything relevant for years
Make it faithful to the book. The Humans actually win the fight, after thunderchild takes on 6 tripodz wreaking half of them they retreat when 2 ironclads show up.
What book did you read?
True, there were composers and writers and traders and priests who were black. On the other hand they were centered in to few blocks in London and other bigger coastal cities. Apart from that they were a curiosity around Britain.
Yeah its not like we have superbugs or aids or ebola
This.
