9/11

shithead couldn't keep his mouth shut for a few more seconds, could he

Probably this, I doubt anything will ever top the shock this caused.

That's pretty fucked. 9/11 and a few reporter suicides were also pretty fucked.

No contest. Specifically, either the second tower impact, or maybe the footage of people jumping.

Probably this , I think it was the first real homicide on live TV and millions of people were watching Live.

Was the Kennedy assassination ever on TV?

Not live, and the zippruder film was not shown on TV until 1975 , more than a decade later.

Its weird that the reaction to the challenger accident was so traumatic , but the Columbia disaster was muted by comparison.

Fuck that was a rough time

muh teachers

The one was unprecedented, while the other was much later (with aging hardware), and people knew very well that the machine was capable of failure.

I can't believe I hadn't heard of this before.

It hit me pretty hard since I was home sick that day and watched all the news coverage, didn't help that the Cowboy Bebop episode with Columbia was on a few weeks before.

Columbia was more muted because ths circumstances were so different. People watched Challenger blow up, whereas Columbia's fate was only known after sustained loss of contact.

It happened a year and a half after 9/11 and people were still burnt out from that. It was also the second shuttle incident and the second Iraq War started a month later.

First half of 2003 was kind of a shitty year
