There's definitely a resentment I'd feel towards, coming from a guy who sees himself as incompetent. My view is that women don't "need" to be competent, they have other options in life (bearing in mind, I can't fully understand the hardships that come with being forced to depend on a man, who might end up being an asshole). If men are not competent, the consequences are a lot more severe, likely so as to drive him to change or to punish him for not meeting a standard.
