Considering how much alien and the first two terminators are loved I think it’s less a question of why the audience doesn’t like women and more a question of why Hollywood seems completely unable to come up with original stories for them. Rey is just Luke with out the personality or struggles, captain marvel is just superman without the charm, both seemed to require the destruction or emasculation of there male counterparts/predecessors to be established.

pretty much this. I don't think most women that appear in super hero movies are convincing enough to be believable as badasses. Look at Brie in captain marvel. She trained hard for months, and she still looks like a fucking stick that any run of the mill 300 pound obese guy could take down with a single punch. There are women out there who would be believable on screen, but hollywood would never have the balls to hire them. The only exception to this rule I can think of offhand is the main actress in The Mandalorian. She looks like she could rip a guys head off if she wanted to. That's what an action hero is supposed to look like, not a fucking 140 pound valley girl.
Also, I just don't think it's a natural role for most women to play. I don't think that's a bad thing however. If you look at mythology, women always used their brains and cunning and not their brawn to come out on top. This is what makes for a compelling character, not some direct rip-off of a male character with typically masculine traits.
It's like hollywood had a stroke and forgot the respective strengths and weaknesses of men and women in storytelling, those that make them interesting and appealing. Nobody suggested that women are inferior, rather that they are different and play a different role in storytelling.
