I haven't watched season 3, but I had got over the whole thing even by the end of season 2. I became too aware of the formula. Instead of a monster of the week format, it's a monster of the season format. I didn't out and out hate it, but once you know the formula like that, it becomes predictable. That's just my opinion.

What the absolute fuck are you on about? Season 3 had nothing whatsoever original or new to offer. It was a completely awful season with little to no real dialogue, boring and obnoxious focus on everyone’s relationships and sex lives (which wasn’t even shown), unfunny cheap “jokes” every 5 minutes within a serious conversation, and it was the same used trope from seasons one and two (big icky monsters) except without any of the mystery or intrigue, and there was also absolutely zero character development or memorable scenes.

S3 just felt off. More like walking dead to me. Really gory with human gore. Strange music track as well. Also they have gone so woke with everything. Maybe I was told high when I watched it but the feel wasnt the same as the first season.

when I saw that weird mind-messing girl in S2, I thought maybe she'll be the new antagonist and the rest of the season was this battle between Eleven and the indian girl. But no, there had to be another gate closing arc because that's the only story the writers can rely on so they have to go back to that shit.

Season 3 is definitely better than season 2. Still mediocre and no where near the quality of the first season, but season 2 was not only a rehash but also nothing to offer on its own. At least season 3 has some fun with Steve at the Russian base. Season 2 was just a total mess with all of its plotlines, not one was good.

I believe the episode and Kali's character had such a bad reception that there was no chance for her to return. Also, why would she? She was a rebel and a punk so not really a 'friend in need', and her power is very good but only works on humans I guess? So maybe against the Russians she would have been useful.

As for the plot, I would have expected some more lore from the UD. Like how come there are cars and buildings in there? When did the UD came to be? Has it always existed? Are there any more dimensions accessible?

The reviews are hardly bad, but both S2 and S3 are mostly just retreads of more of the same, and it's getting old. No one ever finds out about the increasingly obvious weird shit that's going on and the "durrhurr 80s" refs are less charming each time they do it. More about the trend's fading, there's no compelling overarching plot or even character arcs compelling enough to make up for lack of driving plot that makes it needed to have more than one season.

Might explain it. They grew out of the waifu phase and we now know too much about the actors and actresses to dislike them now.

As much as Resident Evil is mostly known for everything that happens after the mansion incident and especially the full outbreak, I'd love for a Chernobyl-like series about the history of Umbrella and Raccoon City. When you get into everything like the dogwhistles of Umbrella being ex-Nazi scientists continuing the legacy of eugenics (iron cross in the logo, Ashfords and Weskers being "Aryan"), meddling in Africa, the lobbying and cover-ups, Irons being a corrupt psychopath, disappearances, the chaos between the mansion and Birkin incidents, Irons suppressing S.T.A.R.S., lead-up to the outbreak, and the fallout afterwards, etc., it could all make a great series. Problem is, the stink of "video game adaptation" (not to mention the movies) might scare away any reputable writers and financiers who could make it great, and fans would want to be pandered to with video gamey stuff too much. I have half a mind to think they should just name it Biohazard and not tell their shortlist where it comes from until their foot is in the door. "Reputable pharmaceutical corporation's dark history and secrets in the heart of middle America" is an amazing hook that might catch some real talent.

I think this is the same old "let's milk this cash cow" syndrome. Author thought the show would last only 1 season, but now must try to keep up without much time to think (between pre-production and release) else the kids would grow up too much.
So, Season 1 was evil bad government experiment goes wrong.
Season 2 is experiment goes out of control, they can't close the gate and there's a wi-fi connection to the Will., but at the glorious ending 11 closes it.
Season 3 starts without a cliffhanger from the previous season, since the portal is closed. What the authors did, since the government already knew it was a bad thing? The communists. I enjoyed the explanation that they used Hawkins because the barrier there was thinner.
But the communists-are-using-a-demogorgon-as-bio-weapon justs makes everything more complicated.

Obviously the season 4 is when Will /11/Jonathan/Joyce returns to Hawkins on a trip, maybe with 11 getting hers powers back and trying to contact Hopper, just out find out he's alive.

Season 2 was already weaker than season 1. This kind of stories always become progresively worse when shit starts to get explained and shown, and specially when they try to double down on stuff.
On season one the involvement of the kids alone made sense, but once season doubled down with several demagorgones, and demadogos and the nightflyer it just became too fucking big for nobody else to notice this shit. And now you´ve got the nightflyer in the real world and several murders and dissapearences on the same town that went nuts on season 1.
Add to this that the dynamics of the relationships between the characters are already known and developed. A story´s point is to serve as a vehicle for character´s growth and transformation. This season brought in almost zero development.

Season 2 seemed to drag, had that pointless "spin off" episode and took too long to get to the actual story.

Season 3 at least got to the action quick, but I guess it did at the sake of character interactions and gave some characters pretty short shrift because of it.

The new characters were more interesting in season 2, the action was better, and they actually attempted some amount of worldbuilding. Nothing in season 3 comes close to how good of a villain Billy was in season 2, and Alexei is no Bob Newby.

I think they have a bloated cast. Much so they always split them into groups, only to find themselves together at the end.
This gives little screentime to some tertiary roles, that end up being used as plot devices ("he's here") or comic relief.

Honestly the only thing worse than a show going on too long is a rushed ending. See also: Gravity Falls. I feel like 5 Seasons would be a reasonable amount to wrap things up without it feeling rushed. The kids will basically be adults (16) by that point. S4 is Eleven et. al. realising they have unfinished business in Hawkins and returning. S5 is defeating the big bad. Done and dusted.
