its good
series 2 a bit rushed tho. wouldn't get made today unless there was black centurions running around though

its a bit 'Forest Gump in Rome'. These two spastics seem to stumble and majorly affect every major event during the change from a Republic to Empire

Good thread this.

Maybe I will. Is it like one of those other shows that started out good but went to complete shit after a season or two?

Not complete shit, but a very rushed season. Basically, they thought they'd get more seasons, then HBO axed the show citing high cost during preproduction of season 2:
>I discovered halfway through writing the second season the show was going to end. The second was going to end with the death of Brutus. Third and fourth season would be set in Egypt. Fifth was going to be the rise of the Messiah in Palestine. But because we got the heads-up that the second season would be it, I telescoped the third and fourth season into the second one, which accounts for the blazing speed we go through history near the end. There's certainly more than enough history to go around.[28]

The show was canceled in Season 2
They were planning on much more, including the jewish rebellions.

Caesar is killed by Brutus and Octavian becomes the first emperor.

>story is told from the perspective of characters
>creator takes liberties to show this
Welcome to literally all of theater.

Season 1 is great.
You will notice the pacing feels off in Season 2 though, they rushed the story a bit.

Attached: 1559186622324.jpg (1920x1080, 466K)

Honestly season 2 isn't so bad. It's not the pacing but the terrible new Octavian actor and how his story and the new Characters around him are so seperated from the story. The first three and last three episodes of season two are just as great as season one. It's just the middle of the season that focuses on Octavian that is a chore to get through.

exactly and people treat this as a serious drama. Has massive spoof elements

So Octavian becomes the first emperor, but why is Julius not considered the first? I know that he was made dictator for 10 years, then they killed him. Julius probably would've found a way to stay in power imo. So what is the exact reason they consider Octavian the first? Is it because he was the first accepted emperor? Or did he reform the government into an empire?

She is a sex demon.

(((they))) would never allow it. Might red pill the normies.

How can you be this stupid user

Octavian wasn't the first emperor. He was Imperator and he even explicably says he is "first citizen" in the show. Augustus stopped all civil war and brought generations of peace. Caesar was more similar to Sulla except he didn't want to step down. So if you say Caesar was first then why not Sulla?
IMO first Emperor was Claudius as they begun to expand the empire into Britain while he kept up the charade as being leader when it was really Sejanus i.e. the praetorian guard took over control

Wasn't Julius the end of the Republic and Octavian the start of the Empire?

Bend her over immediately and penetrate her, it's clearly what she was expecting Octavian to do and she was disappointed he didn't have the masculine dominance to do so.

Roman women expected the oldest male to provide strong leadership for the household, even if said male was younger than them.

there is no definitive answer when the republic ended desu. Most popular is when Ceasar crossed Rubicon over battle of actium

Attia and her petty schemes can't hold a candle to based Livia.

For plebs you can.

"Emperor" is a term historians use. There is no end point of the republic and there is no guy that one day said "I am the emperor now". The empire is generally attributed to Augustus because he ended the periode of civil wars in the late republic and managed to not only solidify his power over a long time but also managed to transfer all his powers to an heir. He also reformed many aspects of the republic towards a system that is mostly controlled by one man. In many ways Caesar was his inspiration but it was ultimately Augustus who really managed to stay in power. Unlike Caesar who was stabbed just as he was starting to get settled as the big boss.

same fucking love it

Augustus knew the key to surviving assassinations; provide peace and hire german bodyguards
Rome was fucked once Caligula took control

HBO series are really all the same by now, it's just the same ol shit in various settings

I miss the show so much bros.

How would you rate Season 2, 0-5?

>hire german bodyguards
It would have been a lot harder for a bunch of middle aged men in togas armed with knives to assassinate Julius Caesar if he'd been smart like Augustus and surrounded himself at all times with 500+ huge, heavily armed barbarians renowned for both their savagery and willingness to die in combat for the honour of their tribe.

"dictator" was something Romans understood differently than how we use it now.
It was normal for Rome to appoint a dictator in times of crisis.

I know that but for caesar his appointment was for ten years iirc which was basically like letting the president serve 10 terms in a row.

make sure to only watch this when you know you are going to die in a month
else every other show out there, will pale in comparison (except maybe the anime Legend of the Galactic Heroes)

>no mother, give me a couple minutes.
>I don't know why this house makes me go through the bath to get to my sisters room.

Clearly, we three cannot all admin together at once. We shall only confuse and contradict each other.
We must divide responsibilities

I'm sad to have to come here OP. I'm very depressed. I thought we were patrician posters, I thought we understood each other yet here we are. I'm only going to ask once. Where's my (you)?
Quality memes you have as ordered. Tricky content. You haven't invited Zoomers into your thread, have you? Fuck up quality memes, Zoomers.

3.5
It starts out strong, but about halfway through season 2 it starts to speed up the plotline.

This, it was a bit silly when they just happened to wash up on a beach right next to Pompey after Pharsalus. I understand there were budget constraints but surely we could have just seen the two of them actually in the battle?

Because Ovtavian established the foundation of the system that would have Rome ruled by an unelected authority with no limit on his powers for life. He completely overhauled the Roman government and established an administrative state centered around him the princeps. So his legacy was inherited, making him the first citizen in life and first emperor in death.

>tfw I knew someone who was shocked that the roman empire was a real thing and not just make believe

It says alot that the most successful and loyal bodyguards are the ones from either the border provinces, or from outside the country. See the Varagian Guard, the Nubian bodyguards of the Pharohs, so on.

>rushed the story a bit.
>a bit
Bit of an understatement, I think there's one episode where it literally skips 5 years ahead

Yeah having bodyguards with direct ties to the capital/your political enemies is a really bad idea. Look at the Praetorian Guard, they couldn't go 5 minutes without assassinating an emperor.

This better be bait

Pressure of history. His entire families history and reputation was founded on the killing of tyrants. So when he sees tyranny, even if by his friend, he feels compelled to do so. And packing the Senate with gauls, bringing troops into Rome etc, thats Tyranny.

Whether you agree with Caesar or not, objectively he was basically destroying the Republic. Even Sulla didn't have the balls to flat out declare himself dictator for life.
