Nothing. TV productions reached a level of maturity that made cinema largely obsolete, rendering it to empty spectacle porn for the most part. There's a few notable exceptions like Dredd and Blade Runner 2049 but otherwise Hollywood movies were mostly crap. No problem though, there has been more depth in shows like Penny Dreadful, Game of Thrones, Black Sails or Peaky Blinders.

the internet was user friendly before but making it absolutely retard proof gave angry normies way too much access to each other. you'll notice that myspace, xanga, world of warcraft and even early facebook never encouraged the type of societal rot that social media of this age has. it was mostly people just taking the piss out of each other because in order to access those things you had to be either literate enough to type in a url or young enough to have grown up in the era leading up to napster. generally those groups "got it" to an extent that they wouldn't let the internet infantilize them.

but when online forums became so accessible as all it took was a finger's tap onto an icon on a screen it meant even braindead idiots could enter these spaces. from then its a matter of time until tribalism took over and people became totally incapable of taking a joke. if leeroy jenkins happened today it would unironically spawn a serious discussion on griefing with people calling the perpetrator "definitely an asshole", or some other wildly hyperbolic judgment based on almost nothing.

My heart breaks for the zoomers who only know this dystopia.
