It's not that he was insightful, although he could be, it's that this was a guy saying those utterly unpopular things despite the fact that he was trying to make it in an industry where having the correct line of thought is almost a pre-requisite for success. He had balls and integrity, which he combined with being a charismatic guy and naturally funny when expressing his views. See how you tried to have a hot take because your idea of "transgression" is going against a Yea Forums consensus and you couldn't even be funny and clever doing it? That's why no one likes you, and Patrice was the total opposite. He embodied transgression and was so witty that he made it seem right to everyone.

I know you're trying to shit on him but you're actually right. There was nothing massively insightful about Patrice O'Neal. His observations really weren't that deep. But there was a blunt sincerity about him that enabled him to break through politically correct paradigms and hypocritical ways of thinking in a tremendously entertaining manner. And that's why he was so loved. The same thing is at the core of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Larry David's character is fundamentally a dick; he's always acting in a deeply inappropriate manner. But there's very often an honesty and integrity to his inappropriate behaviour that endears him to the audience.
