Terminator: Salvation

Pure kino. The only bad parts are the hamfisted anti-war messages that they shoved in because of the 70s climate. The brutality of the battle and ending shots of the dead worked fine enough for that purpose without having a random British soldier spazz out and start questioning the morality of his actions in the middle of a cavalry charge

tiny apu is always right

Full Metal Jacket

The Thin Red Line

the black hawk down game on ps2 back in the day was baller

Fuck I'm full metal jacket

The Longest Day

Band of Brothers.

Its just a long film.

What does the small smug Pepe convey? Does that mean the movie is good or bad? Is it better than the suit Pepe's?

based

Braveheart

I thought it was super linear and short right? What was cool about it?

I’ve never seen Saving Private Ryan. Is it really that good?

hes wrongly self assured

It’s good but not as good as the others.

I don't get it

Apocalypse Now, such a trip. The docu is god-tier too. Not a big fan of Full Metal Jacket because of the 2nd half.

Apocalypse Now is so good it transcends the genre

Where my Cross of Iron dogs at

>random British soldier spazz out and start questioning the morality of his actions in the middle of a cavalry charge
the montage right after is one of the best parts though

It would really be a close one between the ones in the OP, but this would be the close third.

Saving Private Ryan is so overrated. It’s not bad but it has far too much Spielberg schmaltz to be considered an all time Great War movie.

This is my favorite besides Band of Brothers which isn't a movie.

it's more mainstream and much easier for a brainlet to sit down and watch without missing anything. Still enjoyable if you've never seen it, i'd say. It's got the same theme as others that war always leads to things that don't make sense
Honestly i've never seen it unless changing a channel to it cause you see it's on, it's one of those kinda movies. It's got some weird black-cuts you'd never notice when commercials are involved

i have mixed feelings about thin red line. sometimes I think its kino...other times not so much

Why are redditors and amerifats so obsessed with this piece of shit 'art film'?

My parents have it at their place, they are more proud of it than me. Think I'm just going to ask for it back to appease you fags. Don't believe me, report me to the FBI.

Then again I could send you a photo of my Purple Heart drivers plate with a time-stamp.
Like I fucking care.

It's a miniseries

Why would that matter? Why does your status as pillow-humping video game player who once got shrapnelled by an IED give you any status to decide what a good war movie is?

You're a legit fag if you think this is a decent film. It's probably the worst of its genre.

because Conrad was a good author

You cared enough to bring it up. You cared enough to reply. Here's a hard truth, bud: no one owes you a fucking thing and nothing you did there means anything. In fact, Americans are now worse off and less safe by any metric thanks to the Kosher Wars. Congrats. We might be the first nation in history suicided by its own military.

A Tourneur western contains 5x more substance than any of his redditcore trash. Shove your farthouse ““films”” up your ass bud.

You really weren't, though. The number of troops who've actually engaged an enemy directly since Somalia is staggeringly small. Driving around with the off-chance of getting sniped or IED'd isn't really war. It's kind of like living in Chicago.

>doesn't realize both are adaptations

There’s a reason the military has slowly switched from “warrior” to “warfighter”. One is heroic while the other sounds like “bricklayer” or “pipe-fitter”.

My favorite in re-watches along with Paris, Texas.
But ok. I suppose for your own mental stability you can believe what you want.

Band of Brothers, yeah yeah its not a film but really just my favorite thing to watch about the war

I did watch Downfall recently too, great film but I wouldn't call it my favorite

Attached: bandofbrothers.jpg (1280x720, 65K)

FYI the primary cause of service-members who have received Purple Hearts is participation in combat. I was there in 06-07, and that was debatably the worse time to be there.

Well I've actually been in numerous firefights, complex ambushes (SAF, RPGs, IEDs), and seen a population at civil war with itself. Been to numerous blast sites because the Shiites and Sunnis were going all out trying to kill the other when I was there.

Let me know when daily IEDs, suicide-bombers and VBIEDs against a civilian population and local security forces becomes prevalent in Chicago. Because it isn't now.

Fires on the Plain. I don't know why it isn't more popular. I never see it mentioned in these threads. Bar the last 15-20 minutes which are a bit too on the nose for me, the movie is terrific. Just one big shit where you're hungry and looking for dry boots.

After me and my friends were done with the military somewhere around 2009 we watched a lot of modern war films together, some of which were from the US. Modern US war films suck. They're too obsessed with the individual in an effort to avoid saying anything of meaning, and too damn Hollywood to create an interesting character study. War in general is something you experience in a group, both as a soldier and as a civilian, which also goes against what Hollywood produces. American cinema also usually fails when trying to represent a brotherhood between men, so doing it poorly in war films as well isn't a surprise.
I wish indie film makers in America would tackle the subject. I don't think the big studios are capable of making anything good.

Where does Jarhead fit into this?

It's great, but it's a very artistic rendition. It doesn't pretend to a realistic representation, which is both is strength and weakness.
No one asks a question like "who's doing this to us?" in a war. That fucker is clearly the enemy. Fuck him. If someone is shooting at you, you don't wonder about the nature of evil. Evil is the other guy and you hate him for fighting you.
I love the film, but it's not about war as experienced in real time by those who participate in it.

>not liking the 2nd half
why do so many redditbabs have this "opinion"? The second half is the most kino and memorable part of FMJ.

fuck me platoon really is the crappy one of the big 4 nam flicks

Letters from Iwo Jima

It has been copied mercilessly to the point it feels like a rehash. Saving private Ryan also suffered from it by what was copied was mostly how the war scenes were filmed. In Platoon the characters themselves were copied and reused, so they end up feeling shallow. You've already seen all of them in other films, although Platoon is the origin.
It's not a crappy film.

i like all these stop being trying to be tribal and divisive about dumb shit like this

Lol I remember this pic too. Possibly just a troll. Who knows.

I just love the Ma Deuce, great gun we have been using for nearly a century.
Have you been paying attention to the Syrian Conflict, like at all?
One, maybe two, maybe more. You rarely see hajj, and most times you are just forced into blind fire in the direction the incoming is coming from. Average engagement ranges are a minimum of 150+ meters, and we were nearly every time on the move. It is pretty fucking difficult to accurately identify a target on such shitty roads and at high-speed, not to mention shifting a turret that is roughly a half ton. Every engagement is an imperfect situation, and it isn't like video games where they have an icon above them highlighting them as an enemy and where they are. It is pretty damn difficult to kill the other guy in such scenarios, sometimes it works out, but most times all you are worried about it getting out of their kill-zone.
>Thin Red Line is the most pretentious film I've ever seen

It is more accurate than you would think. War isn't only about combat, it is a mind game. And you learn to try to find beauty in where you are because everything else is so God-awful

Attached: honk honk does nothing.jpg (1632x1232, 350K)

>Have you been paying attention to the Syrian Conflict, like at all?
Lol the Russians only came into help their ally after the West intentionally destabilised Syria like they did in Libya and Iraq and are trying to do again in Iran

I remember U-571 being good when I watched it as a kid, probably going to re watch it. How does it stack up?

/leftv/ out in force and full of faggotry

>intentionally
What is your evidence?

They have been bombing civilians population centers like it is WW2, in hope of killing a few militants. There bombings have done more harm than good to the Syrian population, only to prop up the Assad regime to keep their Mediterranean access through the Tartus port. That is Russia big thing, they aren't helping out Assad or the Syrian population (at all) through sheer benevolence. There endgame is not about helping Syrians, but maintaining there access to significant areas.

You ask the average Syrian, they don't look at Russia has been doing as "help", because it largely hasn't helped them in the least. Truly only hurt them.

Pic related is how the Russians "help".
