Its garbo and also amazing. The characterization of David actually becoming a comic book-tier villain is quite a joy to watch. Its astounding that Ridley almost instinctively chose him as the center piece of Prometheus and Covenant by giving him THE best scenes out of the two movies. Its either Fassbenders natural charisma or everyone underestimating Ridley in doing a "villain" right. And even the term villain is pretty fucking bendable here.
These movies are not about Shaw, or Ripley-lookalike, or the poor expendable crew. This is a a DAVID TRILOGY!!!!

Its always suprising to me that while the scripts are bad, Ridley is still able to make a perfectly paced movie. Just show you the enormous experience eh has in filmmaking. Production design, editing, pacing...everything is top notch under his helm.
