Did the Simpsons Movie come up with the idea of a city being isolated from the outside world and normal society by a giant transparent dome? I know Stephen King wrote a book that later became a show that was very similar - practically the same- but that came out AFTER the Simpsons Movie. If the Simpsons weren't the first to use this idea in fiction where did they get the inspiration from. Is there any other works that feature this dome premise? I think it's very interesting.

The Truman Show came out 11 years before The Simpsons movie

It doesn't take long to Google this, OP

Yeah but that was just isolating Truman not the city and he didn't even know he was trapped.

>A young couple, Mark and Katherine, are traveling on a small airplane and are forced to land in a remote town where the people are behaving oddly. They then attempt to escape from the town, but discover that there is a giant glass-like force field bubble around it that prevents anyone from leaving.
This sounds a lot closer thanks, user. Is there any other cool bubble/dome shit out there to watch? I think the premise is pretty neat.

Wasn't there a tv-show with exactly that premise at the same time the simpsons movie came out?

Under the Dome was a show that came out a few years after the Simpsons Movie if that's what you were thinking of.

It was, thanks. But I got the timline mixed up somehow. Thought it was earlier.

It's 1950s concept

This was one year before The Simpsons movie but it's a comic, and a real bad one at that. Yea Forums usually storytime this around Halloween as a part of their "stoytime of pain" threads with real lousy comcis. This one is so bad it's good however. Aliens set up a Dome around a small town and sends down one Alien in the shape of a human girl who seduces a man, fucks him and lay eggs from which more identical looking girls hatches from and seduces more men etc.

King's novel came out 2 years after Simpsons film, King said he had toyed with the idea for years and I believe him

SNEED

You think it's just a case of having similar ideas in isolation without one influencing the other?

Also holy shit does every captcha need to be a slow fadeout one now. FUCK.

This is a good thread and it's barely even about the simpsons so get lost, zoomer.

SUCK MY FUCK

I read a book as a child where this happened. Something about an alien invasion and humanity lives under domes. It's not a new concept at all, and probably originates from early sci-fi conceptions of what colonizing another planet would look like.

Didn't they live under a dome in Logan's Run?

Ages ago, I read a sci-fi short story from the 70s or so where the exact same thing happens to New York. It's not a new concept.

>Did the Simpsons Movie come up with the idea of a city being isolated from the outside world and normal society by a giant transparent dome?
No. The Bubble (1966) is the 1st movie to use this.

Why even give a shit when the show had the entire town move once due to trash? It's a gag, there's nothing meaningful or deep about it.

Came here to post Girls.

Girls isn't bad.

OP specified a giant dome. Kandor is covered by a tiny dome.

>Also holy shit does every captcha need to be a slow fadeout one now. FUCK.
I thought it was only me.

It’s an entire city contained within a dome/bottle.

Clear your browser history.

you would have thought the president would decide to use the town as an experiment instead of destroying it

Unironically worked

Your post number ends in "2440".

Get 4chanX and it can force no-Java captchas that eliminates slowfade

or cough up $20 to not see any captchas for a year

It's a very stupid concept and you should feel ashamed for wanting to see more of it.
