Somewhere in the early 10s they became ashamed of their own autism and purged everything from the site that made it fun to read.

It was because Troper Tales/ This Troper section brought too much negative attention to the site.

I was active on the forums from around 2009-2011 and I can remember not one but several occasions were members were catfished, doxxed, or all but admitted to being pedophiles and until Fast Eddie decided to go full nuclear on the site there was an incredible degree of permissiveness in the entire community. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was witnessing the early stages of SJW cancer taking form on that site, and it began with a bunch of people making it a badge of pride that they were asexual. I remember one popular asexual user eventually came out as straight and it made one of her other asexual fangirls threaten to kill herself which resulted in her getting IP banned. Fun times.

I miss this guy. I never really liked him as a person, but he reminds me of the comfy days of YouTube. He used to be one of the biggest YouTubers.

Tropes are fine, if used properly and not in a 'this is cliché as shit' way and mesh well with your story. Some of the most highly regarded films of all time have tropes all over them. But it's still possible to cop out and have tropes bog your movie down, and those movies SHOULD be called out for being lazy and cookie cutter

This is why I've never understood the shit it gets. I just assumed it was because it was popular and a source for "normie" information. As far as describing the trope and origins or whatever, it doesn't seem like it's all that bad.
