Refn the madman made the second episode the longest, but also the one with by far the least plot. A viewer interested but not fully drawn by the first episode would watch episode 2 to decide whether to finish the show, and they would have to watch NINETY SIX MINUTES of Jesus mourning and his uncle dying and literally nothing else. Episode 5 would have been four hours if its events were covered at the same pace.
