Same. The humor in it is goddamn funny to me juxtaposed to how fucking bleak the rest of the movie is, every joke lands when there should be nothing funny at all

What a great movie

small talk is the easiest shit wtf is wrong with you people

This scene became my inspiration for what to do when i dont want to continue a conversation

I can't pretend like it isn't entirely stupid to talk about the weather or some dumb event that happened recently just to keep the conversation going. How do people talk about inane bullshit pretending like they care is beyond me

Attached: 3D84596E-C53C-4799-8F53-0EC4430D0510.jpg (629x505, 33K)

Its the most mindnumbing stupid thing out there. It takes way too much energy to pretend to be interested in whatever drivel people are saying.

was he an incel?

>woaah he's le just like le me
fuck off losers you didn't burn down your house with two kids in it stop pretending you can relate

>How do people talk about inane bullshit
you don't
ideally you find something that interest the both of you and work from that
or that interests just her but you'll have to pretend to care

Nope, he deliberately made his own life an emotionless joyless self-imposed prison after accidentally burning all 3 of his kids alive, major difference.

This
Wanted to give it a watch but this characters strife has a rationale. Mine makes no sense.
Nothing bad ever happened to me, I'm apparently just a little bitch made of darkness

you don't know me, man

Yeah and most people are not honorably discharged U.S. Marines that were in the Vietnam War, yet they relate to the character of Travis Bickle.
Get over it, tranny.

>humor
wut

this film is basically a horror film for any father out there

>NICE PARENTING

This scene is ripped exactly from a Freud case

There's a fuckload of situational humor in the film. All the little things amidst a tragedy, like awkward procedural standing in a long elevator ride just to see the body of your brother, Patrick crying over frozen chicken, Lee and Patrick being unable to find their car while arguing where should they bury Patricks father, awkward small talk of Patrick with Matthew Broderick while his mom is secretly downing a bottle of wine in the kitchen etc.

the "great parenting" scene was hilarious

>Hey is it OK if I invite Sylvia over?
>Uh, which one is she?
>She's uh the one with the brown hair
>No
>What do you mean, no?
>I don't like her. I don't want her in the house right now.
>Why not? You don't even have to talk to her
>Sorry. Go to her house or one of your friends'
I don't know why the bluntness made me laugh

Is burning your daughters alive the ultimate redpill?

Attached: 1548606939169.jpg (720x888, 81K)

Maybe, but he had to sacrifice his son too to escape that fate before they hit puberty. i'm not sure how redpilled that is, but i appreciate the biblical inspiration for it

I swear to god I’m gonna knock your fucking block off

was she flirting?

This is the worst place to ask that question, but yes she was definitely flirting.

Ok normally I wouldn’t complain about this but come the FUCK on. Everyone on this board has seen or at least knows of Manchester by the Sea. You’re a newfag have a little fucking shame for God’s sake.

>i can't bear admitting anything is sad so I'll just pretend it's meant to be funny!
You're retarded.

>n-no you!
Brilliant.

He was married with 3 kids

That user was saying how the film has great realistic humor moments besides the tragic sad moments, just as in real life. You literally have to be autistic with pajeet level reading comprehension not to get that.

>pajamas
>bra
Goodbye suspension of disbelief.

And my point is not everything has to be funny. It doesn't make you look cool just because you pretend anything sad is >muh dark humor and force yourself to laugh.

>Patrick crying over frozen chicken

Not a joke. He was legit having a panic attack as a result of being triggered by something that reminded him of the finality of his father's life. I've literally had that happen to me and their portrayal of it was spot on.

But it is funny? There are multiple scenes that are intentionally designed to be humorous to give the film some levity. Are you actually retarded?

You also forgot a scene that unintentionally gave it some levity

>the EMS fucking up

youtube.com/watch?v=-U8MqkqIsfE

Fuck, man.

Kenneth Longergan, the writer and director of the film himself says he deliberately put in a lot of situational humor in the film so the film isn't just an endless misery porn flick.
And it isn't all just "dark humor", situations like the phone signal not working, Patrick getting out of the car while Lee gives gas, Patrick playing in that shitty ass band with the amateur drummer constantly being off beat, Lee calculating how much beers per hour did he drink on the boat to prove to his wife how he didn't drink that much etc

No one is claiming that the film is not sad. But to claim there is no humor and you shouldn't laugh at it means you're a literal autist. Don't be an autist.

>There are multiple scenes that are intentionally designed to be humorous
I disagree. Or if they were, they failed massively. I didn't laugh a single time the whole movie, and found nothing about it funny. Try watching it sometime consciously going in with no bias and not trying to make yourself laugh just because you think you're supposed to, instead actually try to stay completely calm unless the joke is so funny that you can't help but burst into laughter as a reflex. That's how I always view any content. You'll see that your standards of humor raise significantly. And make sure you're watching by yourself. I've noticed normals always tend to laugh at stuff that isn't funny if they aren't in a group. No idea why.

*blocks your path*

>I disagree. Or if they were, they failed massively. I didn't laugh a single time the whole movie, and found nothing about it funny
You're a literal autist. Seek help.

Never heard him say this, and it seems unlikely to me. But if it's true then my respect for the movie will drop significantly. Humor in a drama is a crutch weak writers and directors fall back on when they're scared they can't keep the audience pleased. Save the jokes for comedy. They don't belong here.

gets me every fucking time

>Save the jokes for comedy
Humor isn't just jokes you dumb zoomer faggot. Humor isn't just setup-punchline-laughtrack. There's humor happening even in tragic moments like that in real life, and Lonergan captures it perfectly without breaking the tone at all. And would a film like In Bruges be better without it's humor?

Please finish high school first.

I went in completely blind first time I saw it, just heard good things, and that 20~ minute stretch almost fucking broke me. Only to be followed by pic related, I don’t think I’ve ever sobbed that hard during a movie more than that scene

In the spirit of the film you shoulda asked him if he was mentally deficient

Jesus, you really are a bonafide autist

you can’t just die

Those Canadian goose jackets are like 2 grand just so everyone knows. They’re good coats tho. If you don’t own at least one you should off yourself

shit actress, shit scene

It's kind of amazing that he was let off with no charges. The cops know him personally, so I can understand them not charging him with assault/stealing an officer's weapon, but letting your 3 kids burn alive...they say something like
>forgetting to put the grate on the fireplace isn't a crime
It is. It's criminal negligence and he'd be going to jail for a really, really long time.

Moncler better

>It's criminal negligence
Forgetting to put the grate on the fire is not really grounds for criminal negligence. If that was the case, cooking something in the kitchen and then falling asleep on the couch by mistake is also enough for you to go to jail.
It's an honest mistake that could happen to anyone at any time.

The very fact that they have central heating and he didn't put it on because of his wife confirms it.

But wasn't he also drunk at the time? I haven't seen the movie in a while but I'm pretty sure he was either wasted or high when he drove off and left them in the house alone.

It's not a crime to drink at home. He also clearly wasn't just blackout dumb drunk because he intentionally put the fireplace on instead of the central heat because Randy's sinuses dry up from central. And a log rolling out of the fireplace is a rare situation even with no firescreens.
It was an honest mistake that could've happened no matter did he drink or not.

Did he intentionally wear it in that scene to look like a douche?

What a horribly ham-fisted movie. You're a fucking moron if you like this shit.
