You wanna know something I noticed about SCIENCE FICTION and FANTASY movies?

so, they'll have alien races or whatever, and generally, these races will have male and female body types, which are just like human biology, the females being weaker and smaller and so on.

But they never have different races, it's all just one shade. The Klingons in star trek, you never see a light skinned klingon

ruins immersion

no I don't

Attached: wifet.jpg (582x600, 50K)

Well assuming they're space-faring races that makes perfect sense. A planet that advanced would have either
a) Been completely dominated by the superior race that genocided the rest out
b) Become so globalised that there was no room for any isolated races to exist, eventually disappearing after thousands of years

U don't even need to do all that. There are difference races and sub species in star trek.

That is why I said a little bit.
At the end of the day a good story is a good story, but I feel that Star Trek style of Sci-Fi where tech is used to handwave away problems isn't really Sci-Fi.
I believe that in Sci-Fi stories Tech and its effect on people or society should take front and center.

that's the reason why the actually need cloning humans, they're the only ones who can do it somewhat succesfully within a reasonable timeframe, really

Hard sci-fi is a term about that, since sci-fi in general is basically an all encompassing term for anything to do with tech, ayys or whatever.

They created NASA.

Maybe it's a future where white people killed all other races

wtf which janny decided to delete that post out of all the other shit in this thread

Star Trek has black Vulcans

I understand what you mean but it's just semantics at this point. You can't expect every piece of fiction that fits the term 'sci-fi' to be 100% accurate and believable, but you can have a little subgenre about it, with films like Moon and whatnot.

Fuck him

I still think the Chinese are the only ones ruthless and motivated enough to pull off human cloning in our lifetime. Of course Chinese human cloning might still be subject to their innate hate for asian features, so we might get some weird mixed clones

Yea, that is fair, I just think "Space Fantasy" should be a more often used subgenre name, at least to the same frequency as "Space Opera" or "Space Adventure"

>humans and aliens are sexually compatible

Well technically any star with planets is a sun, and any natural satellite is a moon.
Besides, in the space age, it'll likely be efficient to refer to a planet by its solar designation
For example, Earth, the third planet form the sun, will likely be Sol 3.

Attached: arr.jpg (900x900, 88K)

Not that user but those are mostly videogame tropes

don't think so unfortunately, I'm honestly thinking of buying the rights from the writer's family to publish it online for free. It's not an exceptional book by any means but it somehow resonates with me and I wish more people had a chance to read it tbf

but sol means sun

Other shit can get designated with numbers but the Earth, Sun, and the Moon will always be named as such. They are too culturally important to change names simply to fit with an autisticly perfect ordering system. That's not how language works

so planets are really the sun's moons?

yes, except our sun orbits the galactic centre so really earth is a moon-moon.
Which actually makes our moon a moon-moon-moon.

>sci-fi movie
>love transcends time and space

Attached: 121111111111111.png (300x250, 36K)

Well, "Real" sci-fi is hard to recommend.

Firstly, I believe that Sci-Fi is contemporary work, so it should always be kept in mind what was the knowledge base of how things work when the story came out, so you could have a whole debate concerning what "inaccuracies" can older works get away with. Obviously, some have aged very well.
Secondly, it also depends on how much leeway you want to give, mainly concerning FTL.
So the main 3 sub-genres I would say "Real" Sci-Fi has are exploration of the hypothetical limits of Known Laws of Physics, Sci-Fi that utilizes some sort of "Physicsbraker"(The less the better) to explore Hypothetical Civilization Development and Legacy stories based on outdated understandings.

My "Gold" standard for a Sci-Fi story is Cold Calculations, even if it might not be most purest example. It gives an overview of the Technological state of Humanity, it explains to us circumstances and limitations and then it sets the scene with real people living within the rules of this world.
Maybe its just a knee jerk reaction to all the times Trek did an asspull.

The best sci Fi story ever told is still Flowers for Algernon nigga

Not a film, but Dying Light has people actually call them zombies.

You can make almost any movie a sci fi movie if you replace a city with planet and a country with system.

>implying any girl, from any planet, could fall in love with me
immersion ruined.

>what? Say that again!
>space?
>the whole thing!
>love transcends time and space
>that's it, we got it!!!
>what are you talking about?
>just gimme a minute ok? *character starts talking to herself*
>so, what's the big idea Shauna?
>we will build an Erophile Transportation Machine!
>uhmmm... in English please?
>*character gets piece of paper and folds it in half* see this?
>yeah I've seen origami before *laugh track*
>now, what if we do this? *character sticks a pencil in the folded piece of paper*
>get to the point already!
>what's something we humans have an infinite amount of?
>*black character speaks for the first time* deez nuts! *laugh track
>shut the fuck up Tyrone you freak, who even let you out anyway? Anyway, the answer to my question was... love...
>you're a genius Shauna!

I am not claiming Cold Calculations as best, just that it resonated with me personally by being the first work I came upon that clicked all the right switches for me of what I expected a Sci-Fi story, particulary one set in space, to be like.
You did point out a flaw in my categorization, I now believe it would be better to say "hypothetical limits of our Scientific Understanding"

>the woman that saves the day isn't the black character

>initiate human bean first contact protocol
