Yes, it's one of the greatest films ever made. That's easy to say, but the reason I say it is that it's exciting even to this day. If you don't tend to watch silents, there's some adjustment to the style you'll need to do, but it'll happen naturally, and by the climax you're on the edge of your seat.

it's only really worth a watch if you want to see how American racists see the world, which I'm sure most people here are already familiar with.

Not at all, it's worth watching for film technique. Epic movies are still based on its structure. Fuck McKee and all that snake-oil, watch Griffith.

I've seen it and I don't know what's the big deal (in terms of being racist). The movie does not hate all blacks, there's a lovely black lady who is practically a family member. The only "bad guys" are some of the "youths", and even then, the worst crime depicted in the movie is that a black man stalked a white woman, causing her to fall of the cliff and die. That is very tame.

In case you retards didn't know this, it's not just some piece of "white nationalist" propaganda. It wasn't intended to be that which is contrary to a lot of modern criticism of it. It was supposed to be a work of art, which it is. It's without a doubt one of the greatest American films. If you can look at the film for what it is and not put any of your existing biases on it, you'll really enjoy it.

Even black scholars can't ignore the genius of this film. That's part of the danger of it (in their eyes).

It's the depiction of the Reconstruction that really bothers them.
