Reading the fountainhead bros

What entry level trash takes just one sitting to get through?

>reading for fun

Only women and faggots do this.

Attached: image.jpg (1080x1246, 321K)

I read a lot of books in one sitting before as a kid, mostly Narnia shits and Harry Pooter

the only other time i can read a book in one sitting is when I take long flights

Narnia's based

you just look like a space marine, is all

TELEVISION
AND
FILM

ÀAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Any recommendations?

Read a general synopsis/wiki to get a gist of the universe.
Then read Eisenhorn Trilogy.
Gaunt's Ghosts series.
Execution Hour.
The marine books are mostly shit.
It's pretty much Dan Abnett stuff or bust.

Any book that can be read in one sitting is not worth reading.

I read you nigger, but I can pick out more entertaining books than niggers from Yea Forums can find not to mention shit like Harry potter

Candide, Turning of the Screw, the Pearl?

every book is worth reading

brave new world

got a load of these booklets

>491 382 NPCs liked this

I don't know what happened to me, I can't concentrate for shit anymore. Good thing most Yea Forums posts are a sentence or two at best.

bro do you think Yea Forums could be the new galt's gulch look how hard it is for those normies to do without us

damn it's a shame it took three replies to get to the truth of the matter

puts me in mind of an old altered cover for The Berenstain Bears Go To Camp
they wear yellow star armbands and the cheerful bus driver has on a black uniform

More like:
>I used to be able to read 50k words-long children's novels and thought it was an accomplishment but now my mind has been addled by social media and memes and can't be bothered to read anything for more than a minute

Thanks public school, making me read Walk Two Moons because the board deemed John Carter was too Violent.

this

narnia is overrated christcuck propaganda, the horse and his boy and voyage of the dawn treader are the only non trash ones in the series

reading sucks. lets be honest here for a fucking second, reading is boring, most books are overrated and most writers are brainlets. i really dislike reading

based anti-intellectual user

btw what’s your most favorite of the superhero movies?! only your most favoritest!

>Fiction

Reading fiction is the ultimate form of wasting time.

All the "I'm such a bookworm! I've read whole fantasy series/trilogies in one weekend!" idiots in my class struggle to score over 6/10 on every subject. Reading fiction doesn't help you with any developing on any are at all.

>used to reads

Attached: 1554741010972.jpg (550x543, 83K)

why don’t you give us some of your favorites so we can see what a real intellectual reads in their spare time

I spent all day reading Deathly Hallows in one go. I never read it again after that.

>cover to cover in one sitting
literally never happened
i might not be a fast reader but a proper book is at least 250 pages minimum

Don’t look up what a novella is, it would blow your fucking mind

What a fucking retarded post

i wish i was a good reader. If i read, i read like a page a day and dont remember anything that happened in that page and i hate it.

>I can pick out more entertaining books than fucking gravity's rainbow
Unlikely

why cant people simply say they dont like reading? its always
>i cant find the time
>i used to read
>wish i could read more
yeah but you can watch movies or do others things you actually like lmao, theres always time and energy for that...
its like saying you have a small penis or you dont have a good sense of humor. men simply cannot admit these 3 things

Reading in general for another other purpose other than for your line of work, personal want of knowledge or personal entertainment is a waste of time. I used to read lots of political books because I enjoyed it, but soon I started seeing everything through a political lens, and it altered the way I talk with everyone because I had developed this trait of thinking that everyone was below me and I was intellectually superior to them because I alone had all the answers to the worlds problems, or even the answers to their own personal problems. One day I was reading, getting pissed off, and thought "why the fuck am I reading this? What has it given me in my life that has made it a positive experience? I can't actively change anything, either because I'm too inept or lazy, so why would I read things that just piss me off?" and I stopped. And I'm happier for it.

Fact is that 99.99% of all knowledge is useless to you. And the 0.01% that you do find useful isn't even necessarily right. So again, unless you read it for personal enjoyment/personal want of knowledge/work, why the fuck are you wasting your time?

You are posting on a board that is nothing but people bitching about film casts and tranny porn

Yeah but that's for entertainment purposes. Though once it starts seeping IRL and they start going off to their co-workers about Ariel being black and how they are destroying the white race, you need to take a step back and re-evaluate if you want to be so invested in something so ultimately meaningless (in the sense that you cant do anything about it and if you talk about it irl people will just think you're a racist). So it doesn't mean that you're wrong. But being right, much like having lots of knowledge about a certain subject, means basically nothing.

Shut up retard

>says reading is pointless
>expects other people to read these long ass posts

>117544338
Even Twilight?

Favorite non-fiction? Intellectual, me? You missed the point of my reply, which goes to prove how reading tons of fiction doesn't even help you improve reading comprehension (I confess I'm just assuming about you tho).

It's not about being autistically sorting for series or top 10 books, neither attaching to them that much ("reading LOTF once every six months makes me feel fulfilled!" fuck off), it's about priorities and understanding the whole picture. Devouring stories made of used tropes and being proud of it is ludicrous:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturgeon's_law

There are great moving, inspiring, nourishing works out there, but you can easily cover them over the course of two summers or something and be done with that hack of an industry/medium.

The whole
>Being a bookworm makes you a better human

Is a meme pushed by the thousands of good for nothing mediocre writers that starve to sell their shitty ebooks through amazon.

You don't need to read more than one or two Stephen Kings books. One fictionalized account of a certain historical period is enough.

Any academia paper would teach 10x times more than any 3k words magum ops classic. Even bio accounts of writers could help you through vicarious learning, avoiding his mistakes or taking inspiration or motivation to fuel on your own goals, rather than being a passive fiction muncher.

Attached: jesus.jpg (498x562, 93K)

nigger, you can’t go on and on about not giving a fuck about reading and post some long ass shit like this

>tl;dr nothing
You've really practiced these memes. So tell me mr. cope when were you diagnosed with autism?

Sorry, I fucked up. I meant 300k words best-seller drivel.

You aren't saying anything you dumb faggot. Literally nothing. Shut the fuck up and go back to community college.

Get a load of this guy

too late, amigo. maybe you should read more to catch mistakes in your posts

With speed reading techniques, basically all of them.

My grandfather who was a trained cataloger could read four books at once.

Im in trade school

That's no way to enjoy a book

>has a twitter account
>airbrushed slut duckface photo
>used to read harry potter books
>upset that she spends all day online and isn't reading dosteovsky by now
wow! what a fucking cunt!

And yet here you are stringing a bunch of weak pointless bullshit together and comparing yourself to jesus when you get called a retard. You'd make a fine debt-laden cashier.

What am I a fuckin nerd? I'll watch a boring subtitled movie before I read a book.

The Art of War isn't worth reading? The Prince isn't worth reading?

No?

I'm genuinely lmao'ing at Yea Forumstards talking about books

How easy it is to bait some of you

Yea Forums here. No they aren't.

thanks for contributing to the thread

Are you made because I described you earlier? Because that's the only way someone would get so mad at anothers opinion on the internet. It's ok buddy, just let it go, it's not important, just enjoy life and stop being angry all the time.

What about the Old Man and the Sea? Catcher in the Rye? Of Mice and Men? Heart of Darkness?

>art of war
>whole book is mostly about deception and hiring spies
>few phrases dedicated to army maintenance and not picking up fights on swamp areas

>Ayn Rand

stopped reading there

no, those books are not in the approved Yea Forums list so they are not actually books

>roasties get burnt out by read YA and fanfics

You just replied to an image that includes Clifford the big red dog runs for president

But Yea Forums aren’t authors, critics, or academics. They’re internet pseuds trying to create a hierarchy of literature so they can pretend to be enlightened.

based retard

The whole book shows how incompetent modern armies are. It takes all of 20 minutes to read and yet American generals couldn't follow its advice and win wars against peasants

Actually retard those are discussed save for of mice and men which is generally agreed to be one of steinbeck's weakest books. That poor dumb user defending books while name dropping basic bitch shit he's heard from school and tv is another matter but he has good intentions.

If he was a tranny he would be on Yea Forums spamming deleuze threads

I mean she never knew any, but they were pretty rare anyway, they obviously still exist, but you also do a lot of reading online anyway.

could the vietnam army been destroyed with art of war tactics?

Tbf most of the HH stuff is crap. The first 5 are varying levels of good and fine, but the rest are just all over the place and after book 30 it's mostly just anthologies of short stories

It's not that hard and no speedreading is required. At 1 minute per page, you'll read a 400 pages book in ~6.5 hours. So you sit down at 8 in the evening and then realize at 2:30am that you really, really should go to bed. But the book was good.

A good fantasy novel engrosses me more than any mere flick ever could.

>t. serialized genretrash reading woman

It's as you say, but most good books require far more attention and intellect than movies.

I'm reading the book of the new sun right now, finished book 1. Was pretty good.

>he reads long novels
>he reads long novels with multiple parts
Sorry, but shortstorykino is the ultimate form of fictional literature.

Attached: yellakang.jpg (247x400, 23K)

Wow user what did you think of Infinity War and the new GoT season?

Talk'en she met a yella kang

My dick and balls disagree. Though you might be right on the other part, as I often read shit like Asimov, Clarke, Lem and so on, which is on the lighter side generally.

Does reading 5-10 Doujinshi a day count?

For me those were: The Lord of The Rings (Hobbit, main trilogy, Silmarilion - a massive book my friend lent me for two weeks), then it was Haldman's The Forever War, and then Feist's The Magician (same thing with other two following books - Silverthorn and Darkness at/over Sethanon).

I need to facepalm myself. I misunderstood the "in one sitting". Nah, never did it.

>Asimov, Clarke, Lem
I heard those are popular. You should be ashamed for your taste if so.

It's a meme image but The Idiot is best Dostoevsky.
I can't imagine anyone else in history writing the titular character without it coming across as incredibly pontifical.

Whatever makes you sleep at night.

You reminded me I was listening to the iliad on youtube. finna resume this piece.

I have no mouth and I must scream

you save the HH stuff for until you actually have a grasp at how things are now dipshit
reading HH off the bat lessens its impact
holy shit how can you not see this
absolute pleb

No they don't, average genre fiction trash requires as much brainpower as average capeshit.

>reading fiction
kek

I used to think I was broken too because I never used to read for fun anymore and then I went to rehab and all we had access to were books and newspapers and shit like that. I read pretty much every waking moment I had. If an emp hit and nobody had access to the internet anymore people would start reading again real quick.

>not reading fiction
Pls don't tell me you're one of those guys who reads pop science and history and shit like juden peterstein when highspeed internet exists lmao

man, I've become this way ever with Yea Forums

can only watch

Why are you listing authors you haven't read? Even if you're not namedropping (which you are), tell me how has the philosophy of an autistic literal incel such as kant or neechee improved your perspective? You know that the categorical imperative is bullshit right?
>and hungry games
This is like when some queer does a bit about homerunning a touchdown in sportsball lol. Do you know what people are saying when they say "genre fiction is bad"?

Attached: 1456752301863.jpg (1104x1600, 353K)

kant more like cunt lmao

first tell me how your being on this azerbaijani carpet weaving forum has improved your perspective. nice image btw, did you make that all by yourself you fucking schizo?
>lol

>historical books ar better than fiction desu

The fact that you put Sun Tzu, Machiavelli, and Aristotle on that list shows your ignorance. Did you just google “famous writers in history” or something? Jesus. You don’t actually read, do you? Shapiro-tier psued.

>durr ur on Yea Forums
I'm also not the one namedropping bools I haven't read after saying I only read very serious big boy literature. Its okay buddy just maybe don't get in over your head next time you talk out of your ass. Speaking of which if you popped it out you might see a little better. Your head from your ass that is. Very based - i need to reread that series. Traitor general where their on the chaos world trying to infiltrate was a good one

it's a 16 year old.

There are Filipinos out there who believe if you watch a movie that was based on a book, you don't need to read the book. A couple of years ago, I was at some Filipino bookstore and I was grabbing a copy of The Bourne Supremacy and a relative was telling me that they already made a movie of the book, and that I didn't really need to buy the book. I went ahead and bought the book. The relative who told me not to buy the book, he's actually really good at using computers, coding, hacking and programming, the usual geek/nerd stuff.

"Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark," you can read that book in like 30 minutes. Don't forget to watch the movie adaptation when it hits theaters on 8/9/2019.

We all know what idiots on this site consider good.

>used to reads

Nobody cares about this. If it were up to me we should have less literacy. I mean its too bad you guys are becoming rootless cosmopolitans but its not like reading the greeks and moby dick is going to fix it. Literature has been dead for decades.

Do you?

Attached: received_2028680053833980.jpg (1080x1663, 121K)

>why cant people simply say they dont like reading?
Reading his generally considered high status. Even reading genre trash is looked upon more favourably than not reading at all. It's not difficult to see where this attitude stems from. Historically only the most learned men of the community where able to read and books were small treasures since it took so much effort to copy them. Even when literacy became more widespread and books more easily available, reading novels was generally an upper class pastime. That's because reading requires sufficient leisure and it was mostly affluent people who would have enough time to read while still doing work and performing social duties. Reading has long since traveled down to the middle class, but the attitude prevails. Saying "I don't like to read" carries the connotation of "I'm a low status hillbilly." Who in their right mind would admit something like that? So of course people will make a thousand excuses rather than say that they don't like to read.

ok mom

this
>b-but muh books! if you read y-you can travel to magical places unlike with those pokeman games and supermen movies and whatnot!
lmao sit down gramps, take your meds

I go through phases of reading once every 8-10 months and will do nothing but read during that time then go back to Film and Video games.

Ah yes, the board where they read wiki articles of books and then discuss it like they wrote their thesis on it

Most of my day is spent reading posts on here.

>traveling to muh babby fairy lands
Yeah right. In gravity's rainbow the main character ejaculates himself out of his own cock and bangs a 12 year old after he travels across war torn europe as a superhero named rocket man to steal 10lbs of hash and this is critically acclaimed, highly influential literature and supremely based.

lit is the most dishonest board on the entire site

I've been reading 4channel this whole day

This is definitely cope

Attached: 1557657583514.png (1000x1000, 247K)

Redpill me on speed reading. Does it actually work? I read as fast as I talk. I'm afraid if I try speed reading, I'll miss key details.

Read any piece of literature thats commonly discussed and then go to a thread and you’ll realise 80-90% of whats being said are just bullshit. Its a board for retarded posers

It is the worst blue board because of the communists and devils advocates but it wasn't always this way. There are still some oldfags left but it is mostly lost. There is a reason I am here and on /o/. Books are OVER (and that's a good thing!). the trannies do know their shit though on bullshit academic kikery and reading the material they learned from is good information to have desu but still god damn I hate them

Like Yea Forums is any better. Ever wonder how many anons mindlessly sneedpost, yet weren't even alive when the episode first aired and have probably never even intended to watch it?

jesus, books are retarded

>people namedropping the same bunch of philosophers or obvious as fuck novels every thread over and over
tiresome - just got finished with The Leopard by Giuseppe di Lampedusa
>A few minutes later what remained of Bendico was flung into a corner of the yard visited every day by the dustman. During the flight down from the window its form recomposed itself for an instant; in the air there seemed to be dancing a quadruped with long whiskers, its right foreleg raised in imprecation. Then all found peace in a little heap of livid dust.
Now thats writing

You're like 75% right but its still better than anywhere else on the internet for discussion of any given book because the bar is that low lmao. It did used to be better but we're talking like 6 years ago at this point.

Looters detected.

Anyone can do it, trust me.

Attached: SAO 16.5.gif (200x25, 1.18M)

I tailored my example to make a BASED Yea Forums post user. There is quite a bit more going on in GR, and its also a complete demonstration of the postmodern movement in one book. The author also wrote the book that would become the film Inherent Vice much later after smoking weed and watching television for 30 years.

Attached: 20070510064619!Pynchon-simpsons.jpg (250x195, 27K)

Going off this gif, I don't think speed reading is for me.

I remember reading that in my elementary years.
Man, I feel old.
I've recently read, not in one sitting but over multiple days,
>Frankenstein
>A brief history of Time
I graduated with the highest English marks in my class.
Doesn't mean I'm keen on grammar, but I can laugh at all the niggers who make common English mistakes and dont know the difference between
>there
>their
>they're
And
>to
>too
>two
And if you don't know the difference you're a nigger, too.

>and its also a complete demonstration of the postmodern movement in one book
intentionally and ironically or unintentionally ?
