Deep Space Nine is objectively not a Star Trek series. The whole concept of the series was to stay put on a space station, and then never trek anywhere. As a result, DS9 is very generic. There is no clear purpose or purpose. Just a bunch of people with different personalities, different backgrounds and different goals. The show feels like someone got bored with the series and decided to write a generic series. Then their name was written and it became "Trek." This kind of generic series is what we got in the last few years of original Star Trek series. Even if a new series comes out to replace Voyager with something better, I don't think the idea of taking an original Star Trek series and replacing it with a generic series will ever work.

It will be fun to see a new spin-off series that is not entirely based on that one series. I also think that this kind of generic series just can't be sustained. The entire Star Trek world is dying and needs to be reclaimed from the clutches of the new Trek film, and new Star Trek series are no exception. There needs to be some kind of new original franchise that will survive and continue on in the current Star Trek landscape. And of course, as Star Trek's franchise continues to die, the possibilities for developing a new series are endless.
