I was telling this to someone else the other day, this is what gives Frasier its unique comfyness, even beyond the plush Seattle apartment with an impossible view and the loving needling between all the characters. Frasier and Niles are decent people who genuinely want the best for everyone. They're not perfect, and their egos get in the way all the time, but they have good hearts. It's wholesome in a pre-2000s way. After Seinfeld every sitcom was filled with dickheads.

In some ways it reminds me of The Cosby Show in how good-natured the main characters are, even though the two shows couldn't be more different in other respects.
