Griffith WHO? That race baiter? D.W. Griffith made racist right wing propaganda and the only people who eat up that dreadful sludge in the 21st century are Donald Trump supporters. This is an undisputed fact. No KKK no fascist USA!

Well if you really actually think about it, D.W. Griffith made a bunch of liberal/left wing films after he departed from the Biograph company. He put more heart and passion into his personal projects with The Birth of a Nation and onwards. While it doesn't seem like Griffith was that open about his politics, his later films are reflective of his personal politics, especially The Birth of a Nation, where he was inspired by listening to his dad's Civil War stories as his dad fought for the Confederate States Army. So when taking into consideration what part of the country Griffith was from, and how the Republicans influenced Southern Reconstruction when he was a child, it's highly unlikely that Griffith was right wing.

I felt that Intolerance: Love's Struggle Throughout the Ages is leftist, but it's still a tremendous movie regardless of its politics. It's a shame, because so many of Griffith's greatest inimitable works came after The Birth of a Nation (Intolerance, Broken Blossoms, Way Down East, Orphans of the Storm). These days people only want to put Griffith down because they continue to focus on The Birth of a Nation controversy (as Armond White pointed out the Director's Guild of America removed D.W. Griffith's name from their awards twenty years ago)

I have a bloated watchlist, and I need some recommendations to see first in clearing it.
