On IMDb, there was a memorable thread where some guy who was traumatized by the ''Kid really is taken by a monster in his closet after kids lock him in'' episode (which was considered 'True') who set out to contact the producers to find the source. After several weeks, he did, scavenged some names, looked through some old newspapers (this was back when Google newspapers were more easily searchable) and found out that the real incident just involved some 'runaway' kid who was last seen pretending to be locked in his closet and had ran away for just 2 days at a friend's house before being found. No one, not even the other kids thought he had been taken by a monster nor was that ever even implied in the news reports.
