I wouldn't say so - even if it does suffer from "Citizen Kane syndrome" of critics placing the film on an unnecessary pedestal for comparison and shutting out discourse on other works. It's earned its place in history.
how do i get into old soviet movies? are the any good directors or movies to start with?
a non-Eisenstein pick: Storm Over Asia
Alert, here's the real thread which this cunt OP ignored for no other reason than the subject saying /ahg/ instead of /art/:
saged & reported to the police
Man With A Movie Camera
It doesn't even link the previous thread you troglodyte
Oh my God, what shall we do with no link to the previous thread
OP of /ahg/, I made it without realising that these threads were I thing, blame me for being a fag and not checking the catalog before posting.
I don't blame you for that at all, since the previous retard OP didn't even put anything in the subject line, so you couldn't have easily found it on the catalog anyway.
OP of /ART/, I posted after you. This is my fault as I didn't check. I'm not mad at you. I'm annoyed by the crybabies who are upset that I made a continuation of the original threads and posted it on your thread. I should've not done that in hindsight and I'm sorry for the trouble.
>Favorite Russian director
Sokurov.
>Is Battleship Potemkin overrated?
I enjoyed Pudovkin's Storm Over Asia way more. It was a comfy revenge flick.
Ivan the Terrible is so KINO and full of meme cinematography!
What do you guys think about the Films of Miklos Jancso?
They are pretty great. He also inspired Tarr with his long takes so i'm definitely a fan.
>no fun allowed! Ever!
Really Good
Ivan The Terrible is KINO and I agree
BUMP
Storm Over Asia is great
ANOTHER BUMP
>how do i get into old soviet movies?
step 1: be Russian
shameless bump
That's his second worst one though (above The General Line)
What do you guys think of that?
Why is soviet montage so kino bros?
youtu.be
bump
No matter which one ultimately survives, please keep it going guys. I like Yea Forums for the banter but even just a single general thread around arthouse and actual film discussion would improve the board greatly. So let's keep it going!
