how does Fallen Angels rank with Kar-wai's other works? Also, are you excited for his new project: Blossoms?
Daniel Turner
It's been my favourite work of his for a long time (granted, it's been a while since I watched Chungking Express, and I could never get into ITMFL). From what I've heard about Blossoms, it sounds very promising. If true, the theme and setting reminds me strongly of Jia Zhangke's Platform - well worth a watch if you haven't already.
Should put a couple of questions in the OP like in past threads, it gives some kind of theme to the thread and kickstarts discussion.

Where do retards get the idea that other people are only pretending to like things they don't like? And seriously, "pretentious" has to be the most misused insult of all time
Noah Rogers
I don't know, but i do know that the scene where the killer shoots up the people playing mahjong in the restaurant is one of the most stylish assassination scenes in the history of cinema. The cinematography of Christopher Doyle together with the editing is absolute top class and i haven't seen a single movie using handheld camera that matches this (Private Ryan being the exception)
William Harris
go back on capeshit, brainlet

Is "Celine and Julie go Boating" a good place to start with Rivette or should I look into his earlier works?
Alexander Hill
That's exactly what I started with, just a couple of days ago in fact, and I loved it. I'm about to watch La Belle Noiseuse next.
Ayden Long
>t. too pleb to watch silent films because they're "boring"
Wyatt Price
This is a seal of approval similar to the Janus or Wild bunch logo You see this and you know you’re in for a treat Watching November and man is it a trip 9/10 so far
its his magnus opus imo. kar-wai in general is pretty hit or miss but he usually makes great stuff when hes working with christopher doyle.
Owen Smith
OP here, I made the thread without realising that the other one (/art/) existed. Either way, they're on the same topic, so nobody minds which one stays up

Gee I wonder which one is real.

What the fuck are you talking about, moron?
Whereas the previous thread didn't even have a subject line yet everyone posted in it, there is absolutely no point doing this you cunt, we had a thread, who cares about what's between the slashes

Norte is accessible, if you want something in black and white that he usually does, then From What is Before.

I recently watched white dog and steel helmet from fuller. Steel helmet i absolutely loved while white dog i felt really spoonfed the message. What should i check out next?
capeshit took over, you can't even discuss once-household Yea Forums names like Tarkovsky or Kurosawa anymore
Michael Stewart
RYM has better taste than letterboxd.
Hunter Campbell
how about having an arthouse thread where we don't reply to this stupid bait
Isaiah Hernandez
I’ve seen 38, can’t believe TDKR isn’t on there. Most notable ones I haven’t seen are probably Drive, Das Boot, Die Hard, The Terminator, There will be blood. Really not missing out on much tho, this is my profile.
this is depressing as fuck, literal reddit tier, maybe even below truefilm, and they are a bunch of 90 iq politically obsessed americans
Isaac King
imagine missing out on a kino because you got triggered by some social commentary you disagree with. its almost as bad as muh plot niggers
Hunter Rogers
i honestly expected worse from Yea Forums. it's not that much different than reddits top 100. if someones getting into film it's an ok chart i guess. it's not pleb to enjoy and have some of these films in your own top 100 or whatever but if your list looks exactly like this you should look into some more challenging film
ive seen 74
Nicholas Morris
I've heard some talk about Parasite being one of the greatest films of the decade, and I had a friend come back from Cannes saying that he'd put it up there with his all-time favourites. Is it really that good?
Julian Butler
Only real cinema niggas who managed to sit through Tie Xi Qu can reply to my post

WKW is so fucking overrated. He’s like the miyazaki of live action.
Jayden Reyes
I did. Very good doc.
Andrew Powell
Still not as overrated as P.T. Anderson, though.
Brandon Garcia

Levi Scott
I need to watch Sacrifice, one of the few big Tarkovsky films that I haven't seen
Eli Morgan
From Fuller? I really love Forty Guns.
His well known films like Naked Kiss and Shock Corridor are both great as well.
Jack Lee
>one of the few big Tarkovsky films
Nigga he only made 7 films.
Connor Kelly
i would agree with this but TWBB and Phantom Thread exist
Jack Watson
i've seen joan of arc and everything he made after , is there something else worth watching from dreyer?
Zachary Thomas
Try hard general
Christian Parker
So am I wrong?
Josiah Cox
Shock corridor is his best, then Naked kiss and pickup on south street. Big red one is so so imo but has some cool scenes. And yeah white dog isn’t exactly the most subtle movie ever made.
Nathaniel Rivera
Why are there so many pseuds on Yea Forums? You'd never get an art game thread on Yea Forums
Logan Walker
Because video games aren’t art
Sebastian Howard
lmao think about it maybe you'll figure it out why we have art film discussion on tv and classic literature discussion on lit but no """""art game""""" discussion on v
John Richardson
>couldn't get into In The Mood For Love
Sorry kiddo, this is a thread for serious arthouse discussion with people who can appreciate these high level films. Maybe /marvel/ general is more your speed?
Justin Bell
>rogerebert.com/reviews/ Why can't Griffithfag just comeback and smite these farthouse tards
The closest video games came to "art" was Bioshock or Spec Ops: The Line, the medium has a long way to go.
Logan Bell
can't wait til summer ends and all you tryhard zoomers get locked up again, bucko/boyo/kiddo.

Finished watching The Ballad of Narayama (1958). I know it says ballad in the title, but dammit does the idiot singer ruin the film. Couldn't they find someone that doesn't sound like pure shit? If they added a soundtrack without him the movie would go from a semi-esoteric art film into classic you show anybody. It has so many good qualities ruined whenever the asshole opens his mouth and starts singing. Everyone can understand the tragedy of abandoning one's parent's to die, so it's a really accessible film in terms of content. It's just this fucking guy who ruins it.
watched the anime, not the film. It is good? I just couldn't see how it would fit into 90 minutes and not be terrible.
Ryan Campbell
>Because we want to escape linguistic imperialism and we would be doing a disservice to the Spanish-speaking world otherwise, we have partner with the Mexican online film journal Icónica to produce this dossier. This is at the same level as "my gay friend agrees with me", but you actually get some gay guy to approve your opinions for you. Embarrassing.
Yeah, Lee Chang-Dong never holds back, my long-time favourite of his is Oasis, also picked up Secret Sunshine from a criterion sale earlier on.
Luke James
A few people with a good idea can make an arthouse movie. One person with an idea can make an artsy book or comic. Three friends together can make an arsty album music.
But videogames, they require dozens of people just to make an indieshit game, and years of work for even that to happen. Too much time for just an idea, too much people for just an idea, and too much money for just an idea. Videogames are not art, and considering how their budgets and necessary effort just increases overtime, I doubt they will ever be.
