It's all market trends be it for the 1 billion USD blockbuster or for the wanna be arthouse films (all look and feel the same) that live off of foreign and ancillary markets. Netflix doesn't own any mainstream Hollywood movies. All they have is the B tier movies and shows they have made. This means they have to pay royalties to the owners on mainstream movies to be able to stream them. The same can be said of Amazon. The creation of their own content is killing netflix's finances. They are getting they can make enough content to keep people interested in their service. Their biggest competition is the up coming Disney service. Disney has a massive catalog of its own content which is all big mainstream content. They also own Fox, other studios and TV stations. Disney is gonna stomp Netflix when it pulls its content off of Netflix's servers and starts streaming it on its own servers. If other studios do the same and cut out the Netflix middle man it will kill Netflix unless Netflix has enough OC to keep people signed up. So really Netflix is only in debt because its burning cash creating its own OC. If you look at Netflix's incoming cash it could actually pay off the debt it has in about a year if it stopped dumping cash into OC.

Only movies I have seen in the theater lately were BR2049 x 2, the John Wick Flicks 1 x each and Alita: Battle Angel x 4. The Wick flicks are skipable if a viewer isn't in to popcorn action. Alita: Battle Angel was a must see though. It was no masterpiece of course. It was definitely kino worth seeing in the theatre as it was a rather unique movie worth viewing at least once on a big screen. That's a bummer bro.
