It's 'for the sake of the action' and audiences like cool-looking suspension of disbelief shit. Atomic Blonde wasn't too bad, since the lead basically relied on using every dirty trick possible to take on her opponents and still took a shitload of punishment in the process.
Haywire was also pretty good, mostly because Gina Carano can actually sell a beatdown.
Basically, backflipping ninja girls are fine but I'd much rather see a female fighter who appreciates they're going to have to fight extremely dirty to get the upper hand.
