The hell is Mortal Combat?

you can pretty much just back, back, B, uppercut with scorpion through the entire game

bon

The first MK is literally the easiest game to beat. All I did was forward jump kicks with Johnny Cage the entire time and I won. Real men cut their teeth on MK3 / Trilogy.

mk3 had the best cheats like single button finishers. trilogy felt like a huge step back

Trilogy had EVERY character and EVERY stage though.

you really needed like 3 different moves to spam to win MK1, if the AI starts blocking one just go for another.

legsweep, forward jump and uppercut usually did the trick for me.

no zoomers allowed

honestly i expected something like mk4 and was pretty disappointed to find out it was just a glorified re-release

man i remember my play room having hundreds of printed out pages of mortal kombat moves and finishers scattered everywhere good times

Why didn't they say Goro?

Cute

every time

>printed out pages
Pleb. I had the game pros, tips n tricks and nintendo powers.

>not prima or bradygames
anyway the problem with guides is they were never as autstically complete as the gamefaqs/cheatcc guiides were, probably because the developers held some stuff back.

also it was always fun finding something ridiculous buried in an internet guide like 'play as yoshi' and figuring out if it was bullshit or not.

Prima and Brady were for my non-fighting games. Things like Zelda and Turok 2. Fighting game strategy guides were a waste of money.

>Why didn't they say Goro?
Nobody could beat Sub-Zero.

every strategy guide was just a matter of convenience even back in 1996 since even then the internet guides were more complete,

i'm trying to remember this one magazine where the first half was a showcase of recently released game cheats and the second half was just a super dense index of every cheat for every n64 game updated monthly.

I've always preferred actual strat guides over internet guides. Mainly because, outside youtube, those guides are nothing but text. They don't have the great art that many guides include. And they have no sort of quick reference available like maps and screenshots of locales/items/whatever of interest.
