I love fake kitano fans who bring up the outrage trilogy showing their ignorance in both kitano's filmography and japanese cinema as a whole
The outrage trilogy are just by-the-numbers japanese yakuza genre flicks that go through every single clichéd plot point of their genre
In Glory to the Filmmaker, Kitano all but announces that he's going to retire from making his own movies. In the film, he carries around a puppet of himself and complains that producers only want him to make tear jerkers and yakuza flicks. Interesting to note, that that sentence describes every single movie he released past kantoku banzai / glory to the filmmaker.
Him starring in videogames and garbage like the GITS movie is just him trying to tank his own career, he has been very public about his thoughts in regards to career suicide in the past. The outrage trilogy is just him making a quick buck and appeasing the studios.
Japanese mainstream cinema sucks dick and yakuza flicks like that are the equivalent of capeshit

Outrage trilogy would deviate more and more from his style with every release. First outrage has some of his charm in terms of direction, but nothing special for Kitano.
The second was a better than average action movie.
The last one was almost unwatchable..
