Auschwitz was a major processing center for forced laborers, from there, inmates would be shipped to other camps as needed. Huge numbers were also forcibly evacuated in the days prior to the arrival of Russian troops in the last ditch effort by the Germans to hide their crimes.
Not that it helped very much in the end.

I've legitimately been wondering this.
Like, you can clearly see she's in a well-lit room, meaning she would likely see who was cutting her hair and at the beginning of the when she's introduced to the interrogator, someone pulled the bag off her head, and it almost certainly wasn't him.
My guess has always been that she was indeed captured, and that V rescued her at some point and decided to keep the charade up to see if she would break.
