Despite only making up 13% of the population Black people were twice as likely as White people to commit murder.
The study found the average Black and White homicide committed each other was 6.5 times more likely than the overall average. That is why Black people are four times more likely to be murdered than White people.
The researchers stated in one line of research: "We estimated Black/White homicide rates were 5-10 times higher than the national murder rate."
"The racial/ethnic disparities in violence suggest that these differences likely have broader implications. Because, across a wide array of crimes, some victims or offenders are Black and some White, these racial/ethnic disparities could indicate policy makers do not consider both racial and ethnic disparities to be the same category of threats to public health."
While it is important for the public to understand that we have Black and White victims.
