The market premise of a movie used to be "give us money, and we will entertain you for a couple of hours".

The market premise of a movie today (not always, but increasingly) is "seeing this movie is a social imperative, because the ALT_RIGHT! has decried our casting choices, so strike a blow against the patriarchy and buy a ticket today!"

The pressure isn't to make a good movie, it's to be woke, and to stir up enough right-wing blogs to shitpost about you, that you're able to point at them and convince morons to see your movie to spite them.

Other movies I watched have been disappointing and I'm easily pleased.

Because Hollywood has gone peak capitalism and refuses to greenlight any film that isn't derived from something you can prove already made money. Now we're drowning in remakes and reboots and no one is even bothering to try original stories anymore.
