there must've been hundreds of millions of these old school tvs and in a matter of years they're almost completely gone. what did (((they))) do to them?

Landfills, recycling.
I never got one, always had a dedicated vcr.
I smashed 3 crts with a bat the other day.
TVs are one of the most recycled object
even complete ametures can take them apart for their parts
/vr/ took them all
I have about 50 in my garage
>what did (((they))) do to them?
Garbage men? Threw them in the trash, probably.
can you give me one?
go to a goodwill
See also: cassette players. We should be drowning in Walkmans but they’re rare as fuck even in broken condition. Now, thanks to Guardians of the Galaxy, they command insane value. Check out what the shitty one they used in the film is worth now.
>try to buy a quality crt
>prices are now extremely high
fuck
No
Recycling, mostly, lots of valuable materials in them.
I threw some bolling balls into them
That was the original Walkman. It’s always been a bit of a collectors item.
Hook up some pre-HD game consoles to them.
Prices for a decent crt were always pretty high.
I wish SED TV was a thing.
what a bunch of nerds hah
If you can find one that doesn't have that REEEEE sound I think they're actually comfier than flat screens. Also they play old video games better.
Holy shit! Never thought I would get to post this pic in a thread again.
This wasn't taken at my school, but we had a nearly identical situation. Someone left the trap door open one day so a few friends and I sneaked into the basement to take a look. We found hundreds and hundreds of these old CRT monitors gathering dust. It honestly seems they were forgotten about, and / or our school's shoestring budget meant there was literally not even $100 to hire a guy and a van to take them to the recycling center.
Sony made regular Walkmans,
And Sony made the flagship Walkmans.
The Flagship Walkmans, even the earliest ones, were ultra slim, almost the same size as the plastic case the cassette gets stored in.
The regular walkmans were two or three times the size.
The flagship Walkmans, were usually $200 and up, sometimes double or triple that. The first year they were introduced they were about $150.
Currently, that’s somewhere between $450 and $2500 deprnding on what inflation calculator you use.
Basically, the original flagship walkmans cost the equivalent of an Iphone, but only played cassette tapes, and possibly radio AM/FM signals.
The flagship walkmans were redesigned every year by engineers at Sony, with modifications to the metal case, and the drive mechanism, and other tweaks.
The flagship models were really works of art, like high end sSwiss watches.
Even the water resistant “Sports” walkmans were expensive.
The cheaper Sony Walkmans were nowhere near as well made, and did not have the same sound quality.
The Sony Discmans were similar.
