I mean, unlike a lot of other stuff he did, Amigara Fault doesn't really have much going on. It's a buildup, some unresolved mystery with only one actual scare at the end that isn't even really a threat.

the build up is the scare, the concept of being drawn to something terrible and unable to stop yourself

The Leftovers. It referenced a lot of the bible/torah stories and lore I knew and had an approach to religion and engaging with god that was very similar to how my reformed jewish temple taught it when I went to religious sunday school.
