The 80's OVAs are far better adaptions with soul and far better animation and art direction/character designs. Granted none are actually good since Devilman is not a great story much like all of Go Nagai's works but it's easily the best adaption of the Devilman manga. The TV series from 1972 is children's monster of the week show even though it's too graphic for today's standards. It's bad but in a good way.
