Fly me to the moon is an important song to the show and the Netflix version cut it out. So during important scenes where you're supposed to hear the instrumental version of the song you just hear silence. Also the new dub is shit and so is the new sub.

If the netflix one doesn't have Fly Me to the Moon, then I agree it's the worst way to watch it.
Fly Me to the Moon provides genuine comfort to the whole series, and isn't even static.
The song has an episodic theme and the VAs sing the song themselves which adds to the series as a whole.

Netflix acquired rights to the Japanese show but not the rights to previous translations, so Netflix made their own subs and dubs but they were handicapped by the need to make every English line different from before. If you rewrite a book by paraphrasing every sentence it's not going to make it better.

The new dub is so much better it's unreal.

Netflix dub is bad but it's still much better than the original dub, plus we get Eva in HD which is nice. Episode's 25-26 were very well done IMO. I never noticed that the VA's change their tone when repeating lines but it came through pretty clearly with the Netflix dub.

The old dub only was bad in Episodes 1-4, afterwards they were perfect with the background characters messing up only once. Even if you watch subbed the Netflix subs are shit

It's not a matter of money. It's a matter of licensing.

The rights to the outro song SHOULD come with the rights to the show. We can't know for sure, but that likely means it's more of a contractual problem. Either the songs rights holders didn't want them to use it, or ADV has exclusive rights to the song in an Eva localization, or something similar. There is no way it's a money problem because they shouldn't be paying for it separately in the first place

Also, Japanese sentences are usually pretty long compared to the English translation so it's pretty easy to read the subtitles before they stop talking.
I don't know man, it's probably cause the first time I watched it it was in Japanese but any dub I hear now sounds off to me. For me the Japanese voices are the original ones, I associate them to each character, even if I don't understand what they say (I do catch some words from time to time, which is cool, like every time they say Angel or Father).
Also, English is not my first language anyway so even if I watched the dub I'd use English subsso fuck it, I'll stick to Japanese.

Dubs are trash because A. they hire bargain-bin "voice actors" who are neither qualified nor experienced and B. they have to actually re-write the script to line the dub with the animation.
Watching a dub is essentially watching a bootleg copy of the original, and while there are a handful of dubs that are competent and comparable to the original, the vast majority are hack-jobs that aren't worth a damn.

Again, if you're not a total brainlet you can read fast enough to look up and see what's on screen and still understand what's going on. Most americans aren't intelligent enough to achieve such a feat, so it's no surprise they debase themselves by watching dubs.

The whole series is about a child who fights aliens in a giant robot. I ended up skipping half the series after realizing this formula. Watched the TV ending and it was good, never looked back.

The next series, the Rebuilds, are a "reboot" that takes the series in a different direction.

It's alright if you desprately crave more, but the saga really stops at End of Evangelion. Even if you chose to watch it I recommend waiting a few months after EoE to process what you have seen, because Rebuilds kinda leave a different taste in your mouth. One that personally I don't like, but you might. Regardless it's very different in tone and structure. Most people don't recommend it

I wore out my Evangelion DVD's (which is a damn shame since the Platinum Boxset is worth a lot of money now). I've seen the show dozens of times.

The new dub is fine. The original wasn't exactly a masterpiece. I do miss fly me to the moon, but even Evangelion at 80% is better than most anime.

The only new voice I absolutely HATE is Hyuga, he sounds like a little kid and his voice is going to drop any second.

all my friends and i were excited for the end of the tv series and when it finally came out we had a party. but when we put it on and all the fast clips, internal dialog, live action scenery, etc was shown we were like 'WTF?'
where was the huge battle? where was the end of 'instrumentality', what were the angels, were was the big fucking robot/alien battle(s)?

this seriously put me off anime for a while. even in japan there were death threats to the creator(s)/animation studio (some coped with that fan made evangelion anime porn). after a while we got 'end of evangelion'/final battle.

even now, yes there are some anime about the human condition. but there is a lot of anime catered to fans/westerners about action/fast action/comedy/etc.

Without spoiling too much, the last two episodes of the show take place entirely in each characters psyche. End of Evangelion shows what's going on in the real world during those episodes.
They work in conjunction together to tell a complete finale. You really shouldn't watch one without also watching the other

They also don't get NERV consistent at all. One VA could have more than one pronunciation for it. This is why going for the 'correct' pronunciation is a bit silly. Nobody who works at a company with a foreign name that's weird to pronounce will care enough to do it on a daily basis. They would just pronounce it the way it makes most sense in the local language(in this case 'nerve')

The show is peppered with great observations in between action scenes that only a depressive mind could have arrived at. Like Misato's remark in episode 2 that "optimism is an essential ingredient for living a full life". That seems obvious, but too many people take that for granted. Too many have been swept up in the "ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE" mantra, that has been repeated so often in the West that it has become meaningless and thus ineffective. But coming from Misato's lips, in the particular way she formulated it and in that specific context, it rings truer than most truisms.

Because I don't speak Japanese so none of the possible subtleties of their performances will be noticeable to me anyway. It's similar to a literal translation vs a functional one. Hearing literal translations of foreign languages often still doesn't make sense to people because every language and culture has different idiosyncracies. Inflection is a great example when talking specifically about voice acting.
If you understand Japanese, then it makes sense to watch the Japanese dub. But if you don't, and there's a dub in a language you do understand, then that's the most logical option.

I watched Eva with the Japanese voices. To me, those Japanese voices are a core part of those characters. The acting is exceptional, especially Shinji and Misato. Those voices cannot be separated from those characters. I tried listening to the English version and I just can't.

That's not even a particularly bad shot. Characters are relatively sharp anyway but get something with a more detailed background and see the kind of mess the filtering does of it.

I suppose it might be because colors are seldom extra-vibrant in real life. Making the scene appear more "realistic". What if Evangelion was all shot on location in Florida for spring break?
