By the end of the show's run on Fox, the network had started preempting the show for other programs (mainly Bob's Burger and Cleveland Show and some live action shit and football), yanking the show from airing over the course of a normal season's length. HOWEVER, Fox kept ordering normal seasons worth of American Dad. This resulted in them having a ton of episodes banked to air if one of their live action shows flopped (or in the case of Cleveland Show, gets canceled).

By the end, before it jumped networks, they had about 3 episodes left and rather than selling them to TBS or running them as "lost episodes" on Adult Swim, opted to just dump them on Fox proper as a mini-season deal to get them on the air and be done with the show.
