People keep saying if you liked OGF you will like this but that's bullshit, I liked OGF and could not stand this. OGF was a 90 minute movie, not remotely the same thing as a 13 hour (?) show. It's like if you say you enjoy reese's peanut butter cups so someone forces you to eat 15 bags of them and is surprised that you get sick and begin to fucking hate the things. There's a reason things like pacing and editing exist, and you can go on about auteurs and artistic direction, but some choices are simply shitty.

I don't think Janey was molested. Girls are plenty attracted to older, male authority figures without having to have been molested. More likely she was attracted to Martin because he was a cop, which could represent stability to her which she needed when her mom died, whereas her dad was a flaky drug addict weirdo. The biggest problem with Refn fanboys is that they are delusional and refuse to admit that they like some shallow shit, if they accepted the fact that they basically enjoy 2 hour long music videos, nobody would have an issue. An "arthouse" movie is not automatically good, it also needs to be a decent movie in its own regard. Lynch makes (for the most part) good artsy movies accessible to the public, Refn makes barely coherent pretentious shit with great visuals, with the exception of Drive. I haven't seen Bronson, though, that might be good as well due all I know.

I actually liked the first episode and half of the series was pretty comfy up to a point, the rest varies from shitty to downright unwatchable. Likewise, I don't think I've seen so much filler in one entertainment product like this ever, the editing is poor and sometimes non-existent. One of the reasons why Refn surrealist motion pictures are so good is by virtue of how rigorously they are edited, which is something TOTDY lacks severely.

I like how the show has this veneer of anti-racist politics while at the same time oftentimes degenerating into this racist fable about murderous, invincible spics portrayed as primordial savages wreaking havoc and razing everything to the ground. It's so intrinsically contradictory it's hard to tell what the fuck is the whole point of the politically charged material, it basically vacillates between based, shitlib brainwashing and occult Crowley subtexts. It would be quite interesting to break down the whole plot and hidden meaning buried therein had it not been so awfully tedious.

Given the way it was advertised by amazon itself, there undoubtedly won't be any second season. Amazon was well-aware of how marketable the final product was and resolved to virtually pass on advertising altogether. Refn should stick to making movies because he's then forced to stay within some reasonable boundaries and is constrained to exercise some self-control while executing his material.
