He said that magic is just carrying out your will. So if you can accomplish something you set out to do, that's magic. That way he can escape any criticisms about his stupid books not working.

Then some other faggots came along and borrowed from Western magic and created Chaos Magic. They said magic is just programming your subconscious to focus on a goal. or outcome. when you summon demons, you're just creating a construct in your head that will carry out your will. A bunch of new age people played with this over the years.

It, to me, feel a bit like Dark Song because it deals with the occult elements seeming to be fake but maybe they're real They're definitely real. But the meat of the piece is more about personal transformative experience rather than the literal magic involved. At the end the protagonist is somewhat scarred but changed.

Why's it good? Well it doesn't have the best rating and it's slow paced so maybe it's not. I was just in the mood for the /x/ material. It's probably not.

It's a paranormal murder mystery of sorts. The protagonist tracks down strange events afoot linked eventually to a buddhist cult (that is obviously hiding more than it appears). Though the mystery is more in why things are happening and what the strange events you see actual mean for the at first incoherent story and sequence of events. Why is that guy seeing ghosts, and why did he say that weird hymn? How does this Christian family work in to all this?

Ultimately (very personal take) I think it deals with the theological problem of evil question. It's a crime thriller where the who done it is in part the paranormal and therefore leads into the question, if the occult forces of the universe where the killer what the hell does that mean for us? I think that's kind of cool.
