On the one hand the open ending does leave you wanting more, on the other hand it's a nice film as is and a sequel might ruin it if it goes bad
Either the Monsterverse soldiers (hopefully GvK does better but with Adam Wingard at the helm I'm doubtful) or hope Toho eventually makes a new film or two

That was a design for form 5, not Shin itself.

It's an interesting visual depiction of a trait being stopped at the last second before it unleashes hell on earth, but someone attempted to make a sequel with these things it wouldn't feel like a godzilla movie, just an alien invasion movie. It was the correct choice to end the movie there.

Nah. The humans are crawling off Godzilla as his next stage because he IS a human. Godzilla was that scientist who was disgruntled about the nuclear compound dumping. He didn't commit suicide, he used the nuclear compound to transform into Godzilla. That's why Godzilla first appeared near his boat.

In the beginning of the movie some nuclear scientist commits suicide because shitty Japanese Bureaucracy lets his wife die of severe radiation exposure. The scientist himself is thought to be trapped in the tail of Godzilla since there's a human jaw visible inside.They only kind of gloss over those details and you're just left to assume that he drowns himself over the spot she got irradiated and combines to be the monster and gets absorbed into the whole as its forming.

So a giant woman Godzilla would be his wife manifested either through his resentment or maybe he dropped its her reincarnated for revenge. Its basically revenge over her either way so it doesn't really matter.

Considering they wanted to make Godzilla split in half at some point this could have been the idea: Husband suicides because Waifu died. They both end up in the same primordial Zilla soup and form into Godzilla. They then split into a male and female Zilla and thrash Tokyo as karma/revenge for their deaths.

Yeah the movie pretty much visually confirms doctor drowned himself and got god absorbed by Godzilla and that could be how he was able to develop those humanoids

I'd like to see a sequel but there's so much underlying social commentary they'd have to make to keep the "depth" without retreading old ground.
Like you can't have giant godzilla men running around and eating people and have the overlying tension be "America might nuke Tokyo just like last movie if we don't solve our own problems".

I could see them have the giant godzilla men form an actual committee and the big "holy shit" moment of the movie is when one of them actually speaks. Though that is the big exciting plot twist of the Planet of the Apes remake.
