If I remember the comics right, they were really good friends, probably would have gone on to dating, but Peter became that universe's Lizard for some reason, I can't remember, and he ended up dying when fighting Gwen, though I'm pretty sure Peter didn't know it was her.

In the spider-gwen comics, Gwen is in a band called the Mary Janes, and Peter is sort-of her friend. Peter in her universe creates the lizard serum and uses it to exact revenge on his bullies; Gwen fights lizard (Peter) and defeats him. But as she defeats him he reverts back to peter and dies due to the serum or some shit, Gwen is caught with peters lifeless body and is blamed for his death
