Unironically the most kino moment in Eva. Seeing her detached hand splash into TANG across the laptop with "I love you" written on the screen was God tier.

She's not exactly the end all be all evil, that's SEELE, but she was the top mastermind. Gendo was number 3 in the chain of evil and number 3 in terms of machinations, always behind Yui and SEELE.
The weird part is when certain folks try to insinuate that only incels think Yui was a villain at all, I've seen a lot of this in the past years since the rebuild films brought new fans. It's not much worse than the KawoShin erasers but it's still another thing to deal with.

They were starting to develop a relationship but Gendo made Shinji crush his best friend, Toji, with sort of his own hands. After that Shinji just tells him to fuck off.
I don’t know where you get that Shinji doesn’t live up to his expectations when Shinji is the most compentent pilot around, and is even complimented by Gendo at the mid point of the series.
Misato gave him to her so that he’d be safer, as Hikari supposedly lives in a more remote part of town. This happens after Rei’s sacrifice that caused that huge explosion.

Rei = body is a clone of Yuei, soul is a clone of Lilith.

"Rei" exists in 3 different versions that essentially all combine in instrumentality and initiated it on Shinji's behalf. It's a unique individual who's still around, observing shinji through time.

Lilith returned to the black moon, Yuei's soul is inside unit 01 tumbling through space forever. Given Yuei now has everything at her disposal to create life according to the FAR's designs (a S2 engine vessel, immortality, a lance of longinus, a biological template) she can basically create life if she ever crashes into a planet

souls in evangelion are energy constructs by the First Ancestral Race, long-extinct alien creator race that disappeared billions of years before the series. They contain the life-essence and conciousness of whatever they inhabit.

billions of years ago, a hyper-evolved species called first ancestral race sent out moon vessels throughout the universe to make life on new worlds before they ascended to a higher level of existence. Each moon contained a seed, a lance of longinus (control mechanism), and a dead sea scroll (manual explaining what all this is should any other race find it). The FAR sets a condition that under no circumstances can 2 seeds occupy the same world, as they would be able to manipulate reality and if this happens to any old race not advanced enough there could be disaster

The original moon, the white moon, landed on earth. The seed inside is later dubbed Adam and he spawns his form of life, the angels. The angels are blessed with the fruit of form, having powerful bodies but low intelligence.

All is good and as intended by the FAR for a while but there's a malfunction and another moon, the black moon carrying the seed Lilith, crashes on earth. The crash is violent and the debris from it creates the moon (hence why Rei is always associated with the moon).

The Lance of Longinus control mechanisms spring into action to try and determine what to do to prevent 2 seeds being active on the same planet. Lilith's lance was destroyed in in the crash, so Adam's lance activated and put him and his children into suspended animation across the planet. Thus Lilith inherits the earth and begins the evolution of what would become all life we see today. However the world was never "hers" and it was rightfully belonging to Adam.

At some point in ancient history, humans discovered Lilith under modern-day Japan. Worship around this being began, and in time this group became SEELE (which took on Lilith's mask as their symbol) which became a covert org that dominated the world for centuries.

After WW2 SEELE discover's Adam's dead sea scrolls and finds out the truth about everything. It then devises a plan to further human evolutionary potential by transforming its members into gods by combining the 2 seeds together. They also discover where Adam landed. They arrange for the Katsuragi expedition to Antarctica and dig up Adam's remains, the only members knowing the truth being Yuei and Gendo who leave the day before the contact experiment. The expedition awakens Adam, who upon waking up sees intruders on "his" world and initiates an anti-AT Field wave that will kill all Lilith-based life on earth. A member of the expedition (identity: unknown) dies using the recovered Lance of Longinus to put adam back to sleep before he can complete the process, but the event still melts antarctica and floods the planet creating a series of upheavals known as 2nd Impact.The expedition member who did this will eventually was cloned as Kawrou and implanted with adam's soul, while adam's body was reduced to a embryonic state that Gendo eventually put into his hand.

The wave Adam sent out also awakened the slumbering angels across earth, which due to the passage of time and tectonic shifts are deep under its crust. When they awake over the next decade or so, the angels will try to reunite with Adam's form to finish the 2nd impact human annihilation wave he began. SEELE knows the angels are waking up and has no means to counter them, so to do so uses technology of Adam to create EVA's. The exception is unit 01, which is formed from Lilith. It's discovered that children piloting eva's containing the souls of one of their parents are the most effective, so SEELE engineers the deaths/fusion of several of its members with the intent of making their kids future pilots. Somehow, SEELE is able to trick the angels into thinking Adam is under Japan when this is actually Lilith.
