I have never had a problem with action movie/fantasy protagonists. I have, however, had a problem with stick armed protagonists throwing around 350lbs henchmen like nothing. My problem with "strong" female protagonists is the lazy way the writing and basic direction handles the idea of the strong women. The reason Ripley works is that she struggles and overcomes adversity. If you were to make a female lead Commando, and cast a ripped ass Amazon woman with thighs like bulldozers, I'd be way into it. If, however, you cast a 5'6" brunette who refuses to workout in anyway to prepare for the role or put on any muscle, and STILL have her wrestling with 6'5" slabs of all American beefcake, that's going to be a shitty movie. I'm willing to bet that no one would fucking watch a 5'6" stick of an male action star either(the one obvious exception being kung fu movies where the rules are entirely different for all sexes.).
