Have you experienced Evangelion yet?

After watching the End of Evangelion, I get the 'hype' for this series. But in truth, the original series is painfully mediocre/outright bad up until Asuka's mindrape/reveal of lillith. End of Eva is really good, and is a decent argument against nihilism. If you fell into despair after the ending that means you failed Anno.

I would agree with you but there's some flaws to the argument. The main one being the show is 20 years old. While these themes apply to a modern viewing, it's only when we bounce our current worldview off this media that we can come to this conclusion. At face value, the true source of everyone's problems in the show is their inability to connect with others. This main struggle is more in tune to humanity than a reaction to modernism, and I'm glad Anno went with it, but your review is still really well thought-out and is a good thing to consider when watching, but I'm not sure it applied when it came out and I'm not sure it will apply in another 20 years.
