It's not easy to put it in one box since it has a lot going on, but ultimately it's a pretty run-of-the-mill scifi action film. I liked the fact that it's completely honest with itself and doesn't have any pop culture references, ironic quips or other bullshit like that in it. That and it feels more like a 90s film than a 2010s film for whatever reason.

I thought it was the whole point that in the first half when Alita is sort of "innocent" everything's a bit more colorful and most scenes happen during daytime, while in the latter half when Alita's had to deal with a bunch of heavy shit most shots happen in the dark. Also, all the violent scenes happen indoors or at night, whereas most of the ones with positive interaction between characters happen during the day.
