Why does hollywood favor british actors?

British actors tend to go thru a teaching system much closer to a proper years long apprenticeship system, including and focussing on traditional stage acting.
The acting apprentices not only are trained in stage acting, but likely have to perform in stage productions in front of audiences numerous times, and in repeat performances night after night or day after day.
British schools also routinely require students to appear in theater classes, and have theater programs, that can lead to specialized schools focussing exclusively on theater or acting, so young actors have likely had far more training than young actors in North America, and older actors have essentially been in training for years by the time they routinely wind up with acting roles.
Even British actors who haven’t had this much training still likely have more training than many American actors.
Also, British theater has more of an ensemble approach, were actors who have appeared in leading roles in some productions, might wind up in supporting or bit parts in other productions, so the actors constantly get some work, but slso, the actors are serious about even bit parts.

Just a simple addition: Pretty much any British actor can do a range of English accents. Australian, Texan, Scottish, Welsh, etc.
When an American actor semi-successfully pulls off a British accent (like RDJ in Sherlock Holmes), entertainment "news" sites are up in arms about it.

Evans went straight into leading roles in movies aged 20 and has stayed there. Hiddleston didn't get a big movie part until he was 30, and he spent those ten years paying his dues working solidly in theatre doing Shakespeare and Chekhov and doing small character actor roles on TV.

British TV also has usually shorter seasons so actors can undertake more than one major role in a year and also do theatre in between. Several of their more successful shows also take more than a year between seasons which also gives them more chances to do other stuff.

So instead of doing one role all year and then maybe a Hallmark movie in between seasons they do multiple roles through the years, in different formats(TV, Movies, Theatre, Audio Dramas, A Hideo Kojima Production) and they usually cost less when breaking into the US market.

Yep. Instead of just playing one part, they have played the hero, villain, sidekick, etc so if you're making a movie or TV show it's easy for a British actor to just slot whatever role you have vacant, because he's played that kind of role before.

They're cheap and plentiful since acting is seen as too gay for most Americans.

Many major American action movie stars were picked up due to looking 'genuine' when they were truck drivers or kick boxers or whatever else, so few of them started out just as actors the way Brits would do.

Because most British actors get into acting because they have a genuine passion for drama and spend years cutting their teeth in theatre productions thus resulting in far better and more reliable all-round performers. The majority of American actors are hired for their look and learn to act after the fact. It's the same reason an American high school drama is filled with beautiful people in their 30s whilst a similar British production is filled with people who look normal, which funnily enough is also the reason a number of more ignorant Americans who are too thick to understand the difference between show and reality think all Americans are beautiful and all Brits look like council estate rats.
